Leray Gradyent

Leray gradyents are professional magic wielders that serve the function of filtering the traveling population of Leray wielders to other locations on specific routes based solely on skill level. Gradyents challenge almost all wielders coming from one location and heading beyond his or her stationed location, forcing the successful victory of that battle's outcome on behalf of the wielder as the requirement to pass by and travel to their destination. They are like toll booths that demand wielders defeat that gradyent in a battle before proceeding. Wielders who are challenged in a gradyent battle who lose cannot proceed to the next area, unless they declare a personal emergency, which is often investigated by the agency to prove there was no abuse of the invoked emergency status for the purpose of bypassing a gradyent. Ordinary citizens are allowed to pass no matter what, but this system ensures that areas more populated with tougher wielders maintain that density of battle experience, to ensure there are zones in Sprawn Valley that are less boring to the wielders who have more advanced training on their hands.   Gradyents also serve the hybrid role as a sentry to their assigned area, taking shifts with other gradyents to monitor the roads and ensure no suspicious or illegal activity occurs there. They are not employed by the agency, but receive basic training as one to deal with any potential threat to their area. Gradyents also have on top of their reward system, set wages by the city commissioner or mage coordinator. On top of this, most gradyents are accompanied by a Leray referee to ensure they do not abuse their own powers through the means of Leray battles.

Requirements

Graduate from any Leray training facility with at least level 6 magical training, (the first level of elite training), obtain a Leray License card, be appointed by mage coordinators or city commissioners. Gradyents to be must also pass basic training from the Leray agency, and maintain excellent physical fitness.

Appointment

Leray elites can be appointed to gradyent status, but that elite's skills must first be tested, and basic training from the Leray agency would be required.

Duties

To monitor the specific route area they are assigned to in shifts, while battling all Leray wielders who cross their paths, making this a requirement for that wielder to use the route to their destination by means of winning that fight, which is employed as a temporary status shown on the Leray license card.

Responsibilities

Maintain peace and order on assigned routes. Filter out strong Leray wielders from weak Leray wielders. Report findings to city commissioner on the physical status of the route and its general maintenance. In emergency situations, gradyents can act as elites serving any number of organizations in Sprawn Valley that help restore order.

Benefits

Gradyents have all the benefits and qualifications of a Leray elite and more. They get better training, better wages, and have more power and status for their role in battling stronger Leray wielders. But there are only a limited number of availible positions for this title, more so for route-specific gradyents.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

Wielders who are penalized by excessive refusal to battle by obtaining too many digital strikes will be suspended from taking part in battles, with the duration of each suspension exceeded each time. If suspended four or five times, a Leray wielder may have his or her license revoked. Wielders who break the law may also have their status revoked, following imprisonment if the crime is big enough. There is however no time limit on how often a wielder should battle.

Gradyents have no such limit on their digital strikes, but unwanted conduct can be reported to the Leray Agency, city commissioner, other gradyents, or other mages, setting up that gradyent for official investigation. A gradyent can be stripped of their rank and rights for basic Leray wielding if found guilty in a court session should they be accused with probable cause of misconduct. A Leray referee may also report unwarranted behavior from their assigned gradyent.

Cultural Significance

Leray wielders set the commonly observed example for the brightest parts of Sprawn Valley, the reason why others want to become interested in Leray magic. Leray gradyents are highly revered and seen as honorable figures when spotted out in the field. Gradyents often become famous for popular and highly observed battles that are asked of them for demonstrations requested by many academic facilities.
