Synod of Estinople
The Synod of Estinople is the body of the Eastern Alcorite Church centered in the imperial capital.
History
The Synod of Estinople was founded shortly after Estinos IV Magnus declared Estinople the co-capital of the Itarosan Imperium. The first Mitropolítis was María Isótita, who oversaw the construction of the Old Temple in Estinople.
In AY 643 (7988 AF), Mitropolítis Alcophílos ordered the construction of a new, larger temple complex. Six years later, in AY 649 (7994 AF), Mitropolítis Emilinia II of Estinople consecrated the completed Grand Temple of Alcor in Estinople, realizing Alcophílos' vision. During the consecration, his bones were removed from their original tomb and interred beneath the Grand Temple.
In the mid 690's, according to the Alcorite calendar, a faction known as the Centrists arose within the Orthodox Church of Alcor, demanding a centralized structure under the leadership of the Mitropolítis of Estinople. For the last five decades, the Centrist position has gradually gained traction throughout the Synod (as well as some other neighboring Synods), though the Mitroplolíti of Estinople have remained Traditionalists, in opposition to the Centrist position. In late AY 745 (8089 AF), Mitropolítis Emilinia IV reversed that position briefly in public statements, though she has since recanted and declared her abdication.
