North Wall

Also known as the Gate District, this neighborhood/district grew up outside of Bloodstone City's Northgate. This transient settlement began life as a semi-permanent encampment for travelers, barbarians, and nomads who live in the vicinity of the City. Outside of Bloodstone City proper, North Wall is rougher, but is also a bustling trade center, where wandering merchants trade with tribes of nomadic horsemen, and mercenary companies offer their services.     That all changed when Jorston “Axetongue” Droaeb was approved for construction of an arena and Hippodrome. The construction of the Champion's Run invigorated the neighborhood. Homes and buildings go up monthly and several other businesses have moved into the area.   The largest inn in the city is Defender's Heart, which boasts dozens of rooms. Defender's Heart is fortress-like in its construction, and could likely withstand an attack by itself. It comes complete with a smithy, where travelers can have their weapons repaired for a fee or rent out the smithy for their own use. The fact that it can house over a hundred mercenaries and adventurers makes it a strong point if any force were powerful enough to breech the gates into Bloodstone Vale.   The other draw in North Wall is Fort Rendevous, combination inn and trading post. Built in the style of a barbarian longhouse, a large open area around a long firepit boasts many tables which can be used to display wares for sale. The rooms encircling the central firepit can be rented for the night.   Businesses: Trading posts, taverns, stables, general merchandise, blacksmiths, supplies for nomads and merchants.

Government

Leadership

North Wall has not yet been recognized as a formal city district, and has no representation on the city council. As the district grows, that will change.

Defences

District Guard

North Wall’s informal guard force is chosen from among mercenary bands that camp in the district. Known as “dog soldiers,” they take turns keeping an eye on the camp and making sure that disputes don’t get out of hands and no blatant lawless behavior takes place. Dog soldiers are identified by the red armbands that they wear when they are on the job. To avoid conflicts, the dog soldiers are selected from among a wide range of the bands who live in North Wall.   For people who live by few rules, these measures seem to be quite successful. The dog soldiers maintain good relations with the city guardsmen and Triadic Knights. As most of North Wall’s inhabitants don’t want the city authorities encroaching on their encampment, the inhabitants do their best to obey the dog soldiers, turning over known criminals and fugitives when alerted to their presence.   There are no standard armors or weapons — the soldiers simply use their normal equipment. The leader of the dog soldiers — called the Booshway — is selected from among the various dog soldiers and serves a term of one month, during which he or she arbitrates disputes and oversees the other dog soldiers. The current Booshway is Big Horn.
