Southshore

This district is south of the Beaumaris River, located between the East Canal and the outer wall. Like North Wall, it is an Adventurers District that contains many inns, taverns, and shops that cater to freelance rogues, fighters, wizards and the like. Southshore is a bit less prosperous than North Wall, and is the haunt of slightly less reputable characters.   Separated from the main city by the deep waters of the Beaumaris. Long a hotbed of dissension and governmental criticism, Southshore perhaps best embodies the spirit of freedom Bloodstone City was founded upon. Many in the district consider Southshore a town apart from the City, taking pride in organizing their own small community militia and council apart from the city’s. Humanity remains the dominant race in Southshore, but only just, with an increasing number of half-elves, half-orcs, dwarves, elves, gnomes, and halflings taking up residence in the district.   The lumber mills of Southshore are the only major industry not affiliated with a guild. Each of the lumber mills is individually owned and funded, free to pocket all of its profits but forced to assume all the risks of the business venture as well. As a result, ownership of most of the lumber mills switches relatively frequently. Bloodstone’s government set this unusual mandate after one of the city’s more prestigious founders, a wizard named Savasten Kyver, pressured the government to leave the mills as a long-term experiment of sorts.   Much like North Wall, buildings here are built of wood and plaster; there are few stone structures in the district. The majority are two-story structures. At least half of the district’s buildings are new, and most are of relatively shoddy construction unlikely to last more than a half decade before being in desperate need of major repairs.

Government

Leadership

Currently, the Lady of the Southshore Council is also the Rose and Rake’s primary producer and director—Lady Annsa Shivarlu (female human bard/aristocrat), a talented playwright who’s head for politics has ensured her six consecutive terms as a member of the Council.

Defences

District Guard

The constables maintain a substantial garrison and send out regular patrols under the command of Captain Phelas Nuthland. The district is large, so the constables are often overstretched.
