Shrine of Alax

At the far end of this shrine a statue of a bibliothecary with a golden book open in her hands. The room is in disarray and decay. But the statue and altar have remained clear of debris. Keen eyes that are familiar with the religious sects of the area would realize that this is a shrine to Alaxandria

Trees have grown through the westmost corner, letting in a bit of daylight to the otherwise contained room. The walls have tattered remains of tapestries that depict fantastical visions of a golden glistening library. Surely, they couldn't be true, just imagined fever dreams of the devout. Even so, the tapestries are damaged beyond repair, swallowed as much by time as by mold that has crept through the musky space.
If there had been books here, they would be unlikely to have survived such conditions. A sad sacrilege to the Sect of Alax to have failed to preserve knowledge. But so is the fate of many a place forgotten.

If one were to be so brazen as to ransack the altar, they would find very little that has survived the ages. But folded into the brittle and stained pages of a book consumed by time there is a bookmark that seems to have outlasted the place it was marking.

Alaxandrian Bookmark

Wondrous Item

Rare Illusion, Enchantment

This bookmark is rendered in gold filigree that seems to twist in on itself in a constantly moving dance. At its touch, it seems to be made from an exceptional kind of silk, one that proves to be impervious to the passage of time. For this is a patient bookmark. It can wait ages for its reader to return. But of particular interest, is the way in which is softly glows right when an attuned user is feeling like reading.

Additionally, an Alaxandrian Bookmark does not just mark your place in the book, but your place in the emotional rollercoaster of the story. It glows in a color that indicates that particular thought and feeling you had as you last left the book. Its like reading the last three pages, but if it were chartreuse instead. A boon to anyone picking up where they left off.

This bookmark serves as a Holy Symbol of Alaxandria, as well as an Arcane Focus.

Cost: 500 gp
Weight: 2 oz.

However, taking the bookmark is an act of theft. And the tapestries on the walls might not be as forgiving about it as the previous owner would have been. Two Travesty Tapestries descend on anyone taking the bookmark.

These appear to simply be tapestries that are damaged and mottled. But in truth they are massive mothlike wings, eight of them, curling and reaching around as though posing as a tapestry. A single eye opens, surrounded by sharp teeth. It sees what you have done, and now it gets to feast! Travesty Tapestries are bound not to harm people who have done nothing wrong. So they lie in wait around opportunities for people to steal, trespass, or otherwise commit a wrongdoing so that they can enact a violent justice upon them.
