Mechani Empire ([Mekaani])

Overview

Youngest of the Young Nations. Located on the Al-Tari Peninsula, they are a Militaristic Technocracy, that has technological power and military might to defend itself.

Nature and Internal Politics

A militaristic technocracy, they value technological progress and military power above all else. Each region has their own laws and their own political structure, though it is in some way or another a feudalistic system with a fluid caste system. Every lord of each region is part of the Imperial Council. They have the ability to make Empire laws, but not only do they have to have a majority of votes in the council but the Emperor has to approve of them. The Emperor is the leader of the country, he can make laws, has the final say in diplomatic and military actions.   The Emperor is for life, or unless challenged. If the Emperor is challenged, both the Emperor and the Challenger get 30 of their best soldiers and equipment from their own respective "Native" Regions and then they fight, either to the death or until one of them gives up. After which either the challenger becomes the Emperor or the challenger dies/has to withdraw/abdicate.
If the Emperor dies, all the lords which wish to become the new emperor gather 30 of their best soldiers and equipment from their Regions and have a free for all (to the death or until surrender), until there is one last man standing.
Those which do not wish to participate, can choose to support one of the candidates, and that candidate then can choose soldiers and equipment from the supporters lands as well as his own.

Geopolitics

Aspect-Impera, the capital of the nation, is in the northern part of the Al-Tari Peninsula, close to the Mur-Mial Deposit. They have some trade deals and diplomatic missions with the Northern Free Cities and Derovian Meritocracy. They have neutral relations with Erados, Mišára and Dar Mund kingdoms. And they have a tense relationship with the Taer-Ci kingdom

History

The region was mainly used by elves (and 1 human settlement) to do research and progress on the new Spell-Tech, as a small Mur-Mial deposit was found there on the coast of the peninsula.
The lords and population was mainly focused on the progress of their research, mainly in the military department. Slowly, their priorities and loyalties started to shift from serving their kingdom/s... to just technological progress for the sake of progress. There was a shift in religion across all cities, starting to worship a god of Inventions and Gears, Mechanus. Slowly the Political structures started to change as well, with people who do most progress are given more power by the region's lord. The lords and ladies became more ignorant and self-assured and started to keep at least parts if not whole shipments of new weapons for themselves, empowering their own militias. This kept going until one region proclaimed itself independent from the Taer-Ci Kingdom. That resulted in the Taer-Ci army invading and quelling such rebellion. The Taer-Ci king decided this can't happen and sent out more loyal lords to replace the lords of every region in the Al-Tai Peninsula.
Of course, the lords did not like that, so together, they unified and waged a "protective war" against the Taer-Ci Kingdom.
The Al-Tari alliance was putting up a good fight, but they were losing the war, which dragged on for years... that is until a new weapon they have been collectively working on, was finally ready and mass-produced: The Warforged. A species of machines, that need not to eat, drink or sleep. Who can fight night and day, but have free will and thought. With these new allies, they turned the war around and not only managed to take back all land that was lost but also organize a counter-offensive, in which they took a few more regions on the border with the Elven empire.
Neither side had the strength to keep fighting, so peace was signed.
After the war, the Al-Tari Alliance had to choose what to do. What would they be, who would rule the lands. Most lords wanted them to be a military alliance, each doing their own thing unless an outside force tried to attack one of them. And for a while they did that.
It was only after a while an assassin killed the son of one of the lords, after which he escaped into a neighbouring duchy. There he had no bounty on him, but the Lord and father of the assassinated heir, did not care and sent half of his militia to the region to capture and bring the assassin to him. The Duke saw that as a potential invasion and amassed his own militia. The other lords and ladies of the Al-Tari Alliance saw this, and not wanting to escalate things a meeting was called.
After some debates and clearing out misunderstandings, lord "Nua-Til Xavaz" proposed that the alliance should be more unified, with having Unified Alliance laws as well as Regional laws, as well as have a unified Alliance army/guard organisation, which could go after criminals, without starting internal conflicts. To this most lords and ladies agreed, but Xavaz had one more thing on his agenda. He argued, that the Alliance should have a leader, who could over-rule any disputes and who would represent them to the outside world. Though the lords liked the prospect of having the position of the Alliance Leader, none really wanted to be led by someone else, as they just fought to be free. Xavaz argued, that the leader should be the one whose region is most powerful, both militarily and technologically. Some lords supported his ideas, however, most were against it. This led to even more disputes and nothing was solved in the end.
But Xavaz did not give up on his idea. After that meeting, he started going to the lords individually, using compelling arguments and bribery, to not only agree with him, but potentially choose him as the first Alliance Leader, by showing off his most trained and equipped militia regiment, to give a preview of his strength and resources. After Xavaz accumulated over half of the regions' leaders as his supporters, he called another Alliance meeting, where he once again raised the higher unification as an option, but now, those who would not accept, would be excluded from the Alliance and would be classified as outsider powers and he couldn't promise any protection, not non-hostile relations with them. After being given this "choice" and seeing how much support he has, a lot of the lords decided to agree and join this new Alliance, though few of the strongest regions still refused.   A new Alliance was born with an Alliance Leader, but under a new name, the "Al-Tari Regime". And soon after a new war broke out on the Al-Tari peninsula. The regions, which refused to join the alliance joined their own "Equality Alliance" and fought a defensive war against the new "Al-Tari Regime". Though brave, the Equality Alliance had no chance and was eventually destroyed by the new Regime. With Xavaz (as the Regime Leader) contributing most to the victories of the regime. Showing off not only his own but his army's prowess in such a great way, none refuted his claim to leadership. After the unification of the Elven Regions, the Duke of the human settlement on the peninsula asked to join the Regime, both from fear and also for the possibility of trade within the Regime. Xavaz agreed. Seeing, that the leaders are no longer only elves, Xavaz figured, that having the elven name "Al-Tari" as the name of his lands, was not very unifying, especially since a lot of the regions themselves, now more often than not, had high positions filled with not elves but by other races. Choosing a unifying factor, he chose the religion which the majority of people were already following, the Followers of Mechanus. He changed the Al-Tari Regime into the "Mechani Empire".
