Kobolds are aggressive, inward, yet industrious small humanoid creatures. They are noted for their skill at building traps and preparing ambushes, and mining. They are distantly related to dragons and were often found serving as their minions. A kobold is a reptilian humanoid, standing between 2' and 2'6" (60cm – 75cm) tall, weighing 35 to 45 pounds (16 – 20kg), with scaled skin between reddish-brown and black in color and burnt orange to red eyes. Their legs are sinewy and digitigrade. They have long, clawed fingers and a jaw like a crocodile. Small white or tan horns protrude from their head, and they have rat-like tails. They often smell of wet dog and stagnant water. Kobolds like to wear red or orange garments, which are usually ragged. They are mostly found in caves and underground, seeking out prey that could easily fall into their traps like lumberjacks or hunters who wander too far from civilization, which the kobolds tend to stay away. Some can find a place in bigger cities but rarely do so, being treated as another monster that needs to be killed. Thus those that have the courage will try to use their wit and use a disguise or just hide, get what they need and escape.
The race dates back to the
First Age, The Titan War and is said to be created by the
Titan Dragon Mother. It is unspecified why they were created or how possibly by the same process or side effect that created the
True Dragons themselves as kobolds tend to like serving a powerful dragon and the very nature of that dragon will rub off them. They will change skin color, gain wings, become more intelligent, and much more, just by being close to a dragon for enough time. Kobolds can be found in many lands, especially in
Sailan, where they are happy servants of dragon lords of the
Jadeite Empire.
On Tethys
Kobolds rarely go out adventuring but if they do, they are a greedy race, sometimes even stealing from those that they travel with, because someone had a shiny they wanted instead. Those that serve dragons are very intelligent, seeking out adventure only by permission or order of their dragon master. There are rarely any kobold cities or nations, as the race tends to serve the dragons, thus they can be found in abundance in dragon controlled nations like
Jadeite Empire,
Tulemia or
Albersberg. While the race on its own tends to be lawful evil, their attitude changes over time due to their presence of their dragon master. Thus a kobold serving a Gold Dragon might be Lawful Good, while a kobold serving a Red Dragon will be Chaotic Evil.
First World
Similarly to Tethys, kobolds in the
First World were created as servants to the dragons but they lacked ingenuity and the broader perspective, making the dragons create the dwarves to build grander designs.
