Shifters, also sometimes called the weretouched or werekin, are a race of humanoids descended from interbreeding between
Werecreatures and humans. Fierce and wild-spirited, shifters are feared by many as much as their shapeshifting brethren. Shifters resemble humans, their close brethren, but with distinctively bestial features such as sharp teeth, claws, pointed ears, or fur. Compared to humans, shifters are somewhat short, the average height range is 5.6–6.0 feet (1.7–1.8 meters), though shifters are lithe and strong and, as a result, were slightly heavier for their size, weighing 130–180 pounds (59.0–81.6 kilograms) most commonly. In many other ways, however, shifters look like humans. However, to a human's eye, the resemblance is less obvious than the differences. Unlike humans, shifters have flat, animal-like noses, larger than usual eyes that allowed them to see better in low light, heavy eyebrows, pointed ears, skin that is often of a brownish shade, and much more hair, also commonly brown, than is typical for the common human. Because of this, shifters, to a human, more closely resemble their werecreature ancestors, which is sometimes confusing and shifters are sometimes mistaken for true werecreatures, but a shifter can avoid this by shifting minor parts of their body to look like a normal human. Like their more feral brethren, shifters are capable of minor shapeshifting and can manifest animal-like traits when under stress, such as a tail, fangs, claws, wings, gills, and more. They adapt to whatever environment they are in.
Stoic and solid, a beasthide shifter draws strength and stability from the beast within. Beasthide shifters are typically tied to the bear or the boar, but this subrace could embody any creature known for its toughness. Longtooth shifters are fierce and aggressive, but they form deep bonds with their friends. Many longtooth shifters have canine traits that become more pronounced as they shift, but they might instead draw on tigers, hyenas, or other predators. wiftstride shifters are graceful and quick. Typically feline in nature, swiftstride shifters are often aloof and difficult to pin down physically or socially. Wildhunt shifters are sharp and insightful. Many are constantly alert, ever wary for possible threats. Others focus on their intuition, searching within. Wildhunt shifters are excellent hunters, and they also tend to become the spiritual leaders of shifter communities.
On Tethys
As they are mixed with other
Werecreatures, the Shifters find it hard to blend in with society. They would form many tribes and try to avoid other races as much as they could. The only notable places that have many shifters are those that would accept werecreatures in the first place. First is
Krasnoyar, a nation of shifters that have bear-like features and many werebears among their ranks. Second is
Mordavia which has some werebears and werewolves among the populace but in low numbers.
Gollubash has many shifters as it is a nation of monsters, they accept everybody.
Leeu'an find little Shifter presence as werelions and weretigers are known to be allies of the state. Many
Warrior-clans of Venland have werecreature and/or shifter in their midst, sometimes even the whole clan is comprised of them like the rumors state with
Great Clan of Ingolfing.
First World
There were no Shifters among the populace in the
First World as the Werecreatures were the only shapeshifting animal-folk.
