Joel Shelmont

Profile

Joel is an easily-flustered man who runs a flail snail racetrack in downtown Solem. He's in charge of most of the goings-on at the racetrack, which, on a normal day, is not much at all. He can often be found sleeping in his office chair with a book on his chest, and reportedly suffers from quite a bit of insomnia. Joel would much prefer every day is uneventful, so that he has the chance to read his adventure stories in relative peace, with the low drone of the racing snails barely perceptible through the window.

The Party

Joel is indebted to the party for stopping cultists from stealing one of his most prized snails, Snecretariat. He was having the most awful two weeks of his career before they showed up, and is thankful he can go back to having a relatively easy job. At Sage's recommendation, he has since increased security around the racetrack.

Plot Events

"Trouble at Shelmont Stakes"

Joel had been spending the last few weeks fielding calls from angry patrons who had lost gold jewelry and other items. Upon the arrival of the party, Joel was presumably sleeping in his chair, and woke with a loud thud when the party knocked on the admin building door. He told the party that the racetrack had been having a rat problem, and that he would be incredibly grateful if they could find out why patrons kept having their gold items stolen.

After the party investigated the premises and uncovered the schemes of the Cult of Mammon, who were using a small group of xvarts as a distraction to try and pull off a heist, they returned to Joel to inform him that they were successful in keeping Snecretariat and the other flail snails safe. He rewarded their efforts by allowing them to take a few things from the gift shop for free, and promised to increase security to help deal with the rest of the issues himself.
