Weaver's Alley

Market Area | Heraldsport

A long alleyway that sidles along the Heraldsport curtain wall and is a riot of color on dry days when. On these days, it is used to hang dyed rugs and tapestries while the weavers and dyers wait for them to dry. The alleyway butts up against the outer wall of HERALDSPORT and so offers significant hanging space such that small wooden scaffolding covers the lower third of the interior wall along the alleyway. Over decades, the alleyway has become the mainstay of the the dye and weaver artisans that congregated here. The alleyway also provides a cool respite from the sun and hot air that can build up near the castle walls and--worst of all--bring the aroma of the urine bowls laid out on the Avenue of Flowers to collect citizens urea for the dyeing process. The aroma does much to drive business off the Avenue and into the alleyway.

History

WEAVER'S ALLEY was first utilized by a family of dye and weave artisans. Over the years, the family grew and the children and grand-children opened their own shops close to the family. It has been nearly four generations since it first became a riot of color and smells.
