Season 5, Episode 5: "The Wings of Night" Report

General Summary

The Dream Team took an hour to rest after completing the Second Avenue of the Rambling Road, and then stepped into the Third Avenue, intent on making more progress before the Culinarium celebration.   The group made quick work of a swarm of Diatha in the Diaspora, and avoided a Wither-based puzzle by taking the more-complicated path through a Junction Door. Beyond they found an unworldly horror -- known to Isra as a Warpstitcher, a spider-like monstrosity that gobbles up the energy of spellcasters, but specifically enjoys the magic of Witchwarpers. It nearly killed her in its surprise attack, taking her and Cornelius hostage and reflecting their allies attacks back at them. While Isra was eventually able to escape, the creature quickly captured Chamas, nearly killing them both -- if not for Lockette's well-aimed pot shot (fueled by a Card of Good Hope) and Flay's devastating coup de grace.   During the battle, several wild magic effects manifested, which evolved the spell tome tattoed into Chamas' arm, and seemed to have a lingering effect about Tesin... Pushing on after a short rest, the crew scared off a Goblin raid group on Akiton, and then returned to the familiar Burning Wastes of Varos...   They encountered a female Raezzar in her nest, likely the same that terrorized Sauna Station from afar, but found the threat was far diminished after their battles with the Horsemen of Abaddon -- barely an encounter worth putting in the history books. Emboldened by the evidence of their progress, the group entered the Guardian's chamber, and found themselves in a space that was both location and concept -- a blend between reality and the workings of the mind.   The Dream Team found the Wings of Night waiting for them, both the Third Avenue's Guardian and its special reward. The Wings seemed to be aspected by a porcelain version of Tesin -- as she previously appeared during her wedding to Carrot -- and knew her on sight, despite being imprisoned on the Rambling Road. While techincally weaker than the Raezzar and the Warpstitcher, the Wings were able to hold the party at bay with a wall of Night, which passed the Caliginous Embrace to all within, and blocked their sight (excluding Tesin).   In the end, it was the Queen of Night who removed the spirit from its wings, which she took upon herself after speaking with the party. The group gathered the rest of their treasures from the Guardian's vault, and Isra gathered up the Fourth Avenue Key, giving them access to the next step on the Road.   But upon returning, the Dream Team learned that almost 24 hours had passed, likely while besieged in the otherwordly realm of the Warpstitcher. Exhausted from the ordeals of the day, they completed only the basic items of business, and then tumbled into sleep...
