Belierin
Often overlooked, Belierin's landscape lacks the conventional beauty of Elysium's other provinces. The flow of the River Oceanus splits this island into a low-lying marshland, and while the marsh is as vibrant and friendly as any other of the Blessed Isles, the soft ground is difficult to traverse on foot.
Geography
Most of this large island is a low-lying marsh over which hovers a luminous fog. The marsh bears no ill odour, and is full of benevolent, colorful life. Along the flow of the river, rocky outcroppings provide limited stability, and while few make their homes in this isle, man-made lighthouses and signposts border the river to guide travellers.
Localized Phenomena
Belierin is impossible to reach by portal. It can be entered and exited only by means of the River Oceanus.
Climate
Like the rest of Elysium, Belierin is warm and temperate. Even in winter, the cold is never so harsh or long-lasting as to be terribly unpleasant. Gentle rain and softly-glowing fog are common, due to the island having high humidity in general.
Fauna & Flora
Though few settlements exist on the island due to its remote nature, Belierin is full of life. Butterflies and dragonflies form glittering, colorful clouds in their flight; larger creatures include herons, flamingoes, tree snakes, otters, crocodiles, muskrats, and the song of frogs and crickets fill the air.
Plant life is just as vivacious; large, bright tropical flowers bloom in the rich soil, and cypresses, ashes, elms, willows, and various other trees spread their boughs over the still waters to create refreshing shade. Various tall grasses, sedge, and reeds create the illusion of meadow over the sodden earth, bowing in waves under the sea breeze.
History
Legend has it that Belierin is a prison isle, containing some great evil. This is said to be the reason for the island's sealed-off nature. What exactly the threat that lurks below the depths of Belierin's marsh depends on who tells the story. Various iterations claim an archdevil, a wounded diety, the terrasque, or a demonic hydra, none with more proof than another.
