Amaranthine
Amidst the chaos of Kios' politics and strife, the researchers and scientists in Amarathnine work industriously to improve their world. A group of scientists and scholars are charged with maintaining nature on Kios. In ever stranger ways, they "modify" nature so it could survive in a world increasingly blanketed under civilization.
Industry & Trade
The island of Amaranthine is able to provide a variety of goods to the other islands in exchange for funding for future experiments. It is not uncommon for groups to pay individual scientists to conduct research without the university or even Tevinter knowing. Chemical agents, body modifications, medicine, and even strange abominations are all on the table if the client is willing to pay enough.
History
When Kios was still whole, the city of Syndros was charged with preserving nature, which was already in a death spiral. The vast, ever-growing population, which cared about nothing but themselves, soon ensured they failed in their original objective. But from this setback arose a new opportunity, and a new purpose: creating a new natural order to replace the one that had been taken away. This unique nature would be better and more robust, able to coexist and thrive alongside the now-entrenched Kios civilization. Many residents of the newly founded island of Amaranthine only want to use their knowledge to enhance the world they live in.
This drive for knowledge and experimentation led to the rise of a radical group of scientists known as the Biomancers who are willing to do anything to advance their scientific endeavors. Though much of Amaranthine's work has been beneficial, in the form of medical advances and other such discoveries, it's also resulted in some pretty ugly and destructive monstrosities when a biomancer gets too carried away in his work.
