The Earth Chronicles

Introduction

The namesake of the series, the Earth Chronicles are mythical, powerful tall stone tablets forged by The Elder Gods that tell the prophecy of a "chosen one" who will rise from the crowd to vanquish a looming evil. The Earth Chronicles were first found by an ancient tribe that lived in the frozen regions of Mount Farpeak. The tribesmen carried the stone tablets to the highest cave of the mountain, and were soon enlightened by visions of the future. These visions were depicted in carvings inside the cave in a undecipherable language and vague imagery. The tribesmen, without much of a trace left behind save for their carvings, disappeared from the face of the world and the Earth Chronicles were long forgotten within their shrines.

Rediscovery and Enlightenment

Several decades later, an expedition led by Azriel Thermydor and his brother Fordring Thermydor took them to the upper regions of Mount Farpeak. Upon stumbling on the ruins of a once-thriving civilization, the expedition found the cave with the Earth Chronicles intact inside; the same way it was left all those years back. Azriel, Fordring, and other members of the expedition closely observed the innards of the cave; the incoherent writings, the images, and the shrine trinkets and objects. The stone tablets felt the presence of the expedition inching closer and closer, and soon the etchings began to glow a golden light. Those who were inside the cave were engulfed in a sudden burst of light and taken to a different dimension just for a short moment; they obtained a glimpse of a realm surrounded by golden clouds out in the sky above, and shapeless beings made up of light that spoke to their minds and souls. The beings revealed to be "Elder Gods of Light" and tasked the explorers in finding the hero of prophecies.

The Genesis of the Church

As they returned to their bodies inside the cave, Azriel and Fordring wasted no time took the stone tablets out of the cave, a very tedious feat. However, Fordring had suggested they take the stone tablets to Alaran City, the closest establishment besdies Bygeniou. When Azriel had asked why, Fordring said that the kingdom and its bureaucrats wouldn't let them study the stone tablets properly. The decision was made, and the expedition took the stone tablets back to Alaran to a study facility that Fordring was renting.
The expedition began studying the three stone tablets, completely dimmed out of The Light they first saw back at the cave. Day in and day out, the group read through books, tomes, and even brought in selected historians to aid them. They all gave their best to understand the stone tablets, namely Fordring who revered this as possibly the greatest discovery of their time. One night, as Fordring was flipping pages through more books, the stone tablets began to glow once again and beckoned Fordring to approach. As his eyes gazed through the etchings, without a matter of doubt, he was able to understand every single glyph on the stone tablets. Exhasperated and in shock, Fordring grabbed a book and began to write everything he was able to discern. A minute after, the light glow dimmed out and shut itself out. Despite being slightly disappointed, Fordring took a look at his writings and read what he was able to decipher; a prophecy of a mortal who will rise up from the crowds to face and defeat a looming darkness.
Fordring had been blessed by the Light for it presented itself at him when he was alone, and thus went on to establish the Church of Light, the religious ideology of the Light and the chosen hero of the prophecies. His expedition quickly asserted themselves allies of his plan, they completely bought out the study facility from the landlord, and reformed the entire building for it to be a cathedral of worship. Curious patrons of Alaran soon flocked to the cathedral to learn about the Light and the Earth Chronicles and all soon felt enlightened by the expedition's and Fordring's experiences. The Church of Light began to receive donations of its patrons, from the Talos Royal Family that ruled Alaran, and even neighboring villages boosted the city's economy, and ultimately expanding the reaches of the Church of Light. Fordring Thermydor was named Leader of the Church, and embraced the title of Arch-Bishop.

The Awakening

Unbeknownst to everyone in Alaran, the Earth Chronicles resonated via a hidden frequency of Mana with a slumbering, enormous crystalized formation located in the heart of the Great Sea, hundreds of feet beneath. This ethereal communication stirred up the structured, forcing it to rise up above the ocean. In a moment of uncertainty and unexpectedness, from the core of the structure a massive, explosive wave of powerful Mana echoed throughout the entire world. For twenty seconds, the population stood still as the chemistry of their being harmonized with the wave pulse of the structure and their innate, dormant Mana. Humanity would soon re-discover their ability of manipulate Mana in all forms. This event became known as "the Awakening", becoming one of the greatest conflicts in Human history as not everyone saw the Awakening as a good sign, but rather a dark omen. With the Church of Light's teachings of the looming evil and darkness, the Awakening was interpreted to be the chaos and evil metioned in the Earth Chronicles. Disruptive chaos stirred up soon after the Awakening.

The First Chosen One

As humanity began to learn about their innate Mana, one particular person became more than interested and devoted to the twist of fate; Azriel Thermydor. His dedication to learn more about the arts of Mana took him on a journey across Victoria to find those who might be more familiar with it. Soon enough, after meeting a handful of powerful Mana Sages, also known as Mages, Azriel learned to show a great manifestation of his own Mana in the form of Arcane, Mana in its rawest form. The Elder Gods of Light one night visited him during his sleep, telling him that he has become their righteous chosen Champion of Light, but first must embark on a pilgrimage around the world to truly embrace his newly found destiny. However, Azriel became overzealous over his god-given title and destiny, abusing the privilege to look down on others. In just a bit over a year, Azriel's Light was relinquished from him and was ultimately forsaken by the Elder Gods.

The Second Chosen One

Years after Azriel was forsaken, a new Champion of Light must rise. A young runaway of the Freedom War named Trinidad was then chosen to be their new hero due to his passion for peace and strong vindication against the war. Trinidad took on the pilgrimage and was rightfully guided to his destiny much thanks to his new friend Rina and a mythical entity known as Lady Eopi. Trinidad became the true Champion of Light and was blessed by the Gods themselves, becoming the first ever Paladin, a warrior of justice.

The Third Chosen One

For unknown reasons, the gods sought out another Champion of Light. Fortunately, they found the heart of a true selfless hero in a young swordsman known as Benji, who is a direct descendant of Trinidad. With the help of friends and a great adventure, Benji becomes a righteous Paladin and faces off against the Parliament of Magic. His adventure meets its end and destiny awaits him as he arrives to the legendary World Mana Tree, the source of the Awakening. However, he's intercepted by Genova who calls himself the Herald of Darkness. Genova is defeated, but at the cost of the core of the World Mana Tree to be defeate and at the mercy of Genova's furious Dark Mana. Benji sacrifices himself to mend the wounds on the World Mana Tree, having to abandon his true destiny.
