Session 16: Strange Dreams, The Portable Farm and Heading West

General Summary

This session did contain some portions of downtime which can be viewed on the Downtime Nurend 06-12, 308 article. This report, however, will only cover the non-downtime moments.
Strange Dreams
The session proper began the night of Nurend 12, 308 as the lot of you were either tucking into bed in your newly protected base and cabin without a care in the world. It's unclear if Hysteria actually went to bed at this time or stayed up pretending to not sleep while they meditated, as they were behind a closed door.   As you tucked in for the night with rituals and prayers complete for the evening, you felt that sleep claimed your consciousness far faster than you usually expect. A bubbly, hazy transition shifted your vision from the cabin on this pleasant evening and pulled you to a likely far off land in this still mostly foreign realm.   Your eyes fluttered open, light filled your vision in a most unusual way compared to the last several evenings you had spent under tents, or even for you Kaswink who had spent those nights sleeping in the open. These lights were manufactured, orbs of fire and other energies that filled the surrounding area with great detail. You were indoors, as many of you would have been anyways, lying in a soft bed, covers were tucked up to your chin and the air around you was perfectly pleasant.   A thought entered your minds… or perhaps the mind which was currently surrounding you,   "While this is all rather nice and comfortable, there is a mission that I should focus on. Expedition? No… there’s someone I need to find. Tympi? Well, should probably find her but she’s just around here somewhere. This is her home after all. No… the person I need to find is my sister, and it’s about time I get out of bed."
Most of you showed signs of confusion, particularly Namina as she pulled the sheets aside to see that her sea form (which usually appears when she is sleeping) was no where to be seen. Rather she saw two legs attached to the body of a young human man. More confusion was experienced by the rest of you as you all saw your arm move these covers on its own.   It was soon discovered, as Kaswink shifted the body further to stand up and look around, that this person was short, about the height of Hysteria, and that as you attempted to speak out loud that you did so through his voice. Thoughts were still possible but experienced by everyone inside of The Writer's mind, and private thoughts required a language that not everyone understood.   Looking around the room you did see a familiar the less damaged journal, a bag full of adventuring gear, and an open doorway leading to a hallway overlooking a very beautiful, storybook-esque fairy town. Mothlings were floating by doing their moth business, and homes built into trees, hills and such were visible. A small waterfall could be seen at the end of a small river, and the same soft beige-pink clouds were visible surrounding this chunk of land, almost like you were very high up in the air.   A realization was made that this mind knew the location of the person that you were all looking for: Tympi. Whether or not you would be able to change the past was discussed, but it was ultimately decided that, regardless of that, you would go find her in this house just so that you could see what she looks like at the very least.
Down the hall a kitchen was visible, and, moving in this direction with all the grace and confusion of Twitch-plays QWOP, you were soon able to find Tympi standing in this same kitchen making some breakfast.   I initially described her wrong, but Tympi was a 6 foor tall Mothling. She had solid, powder blue eyes with a white dot at the center. The white pupils of her eyes are unique to her as other mothlings usually just have a solid color for their eyes.   Her body was a soft, light purple color with a darker purple fur trimming her neck which matches her hair color. She had two dark antennae protruding from her forehead and a pair of wings growing from her back. The trim and tails on the wings are a brighter, lavender-like purple, and each "eye" of the wings is shockingly white with a soft, powder blue pupil.   Her wings have eyes on them and her appearance is similar to a purple Comet Moth
She greeted you, presented a breakfast, and listened to your insane ramblings while endearing your every bizarre combination of movements. Each time assured that it must just be some delightful human thing. She asked if you were ready to go out and search for Anise again, and it was eventually decided that it is time to leave. As you left with her she explained that it may be necessary to leave her forest to find your sister, especially if she isn't seen soon.   She led you by the hand through town until a brief flash of light entirely obscured your vision. After the light faded it was revealed that you were no longer in this village and were instead somewhere in the forest. The surrounding area didn't look too unlike where you had set up your camp, and Kaswink decided to take a moment to pilot the body towards a nearby tree to carve something into it. She carved this into more trees as you were led through the forest with Tympi.   As you were wandering through this forest, following behind your mothling guide, you heard something in the distance. The crack of a branch, something was nearby. From between the trunks of trees around you darkness poured forth: an oozing blackness dripping from the ground and up into the air, trapping itself against the trees, sticking together and forming a rippling wall of darkness. Tympi hurried you along, complaints and fears put to rest as sometimes there is darkness in the world.   The darkness continued to surround you as you moved forward. Tympi didn't seem concerned, perhaps putting on a brave face to keep you from being even more terrified, but, despite this, the fear began to take hold of you. The feeling of something wrapping around you heart, chest tightening, and the dripping shadows covering your mind. It was all incredibly surreal and the fear continued to become worse and worse and it drove your meat suit to instinctively run forward. It turned around just for a moment to see that the darkness had been crawling over and covering your guide.   A scream was heard…from you? Her? Or was it from the void that now surrounds you? All of its mouths were open, its innumerable nostrils flaring up, eyes that lined its snout and neck refused to blink. Tongues reached out to lick at its stretched lips and the incredibly long proboscis of its anteater-like face becomes visible. More screaming, your breath is heavy and fast… Seeing Tympi being covered, Kaswink hoped to reach out and save her. Almost as if targeting her weaknesses, Kaswink had to resist something charismatically, and as she struggled against it all of you heard something in her own voice say "I will die here."   More screams filled your mind, your vision was becoming hazy and you felt as though you were about to collapse, but a calming voice cut through it all as Tympi instructed you to run and to not look back.   The faint memory of your legs violently moving and feet pounding against the ground still echoed through your body as you woke up, drenched in sweat in your familiar cabin. Birds from the surrounding wood were making their daily cacophony to remind you that the sun exists, and a new day is about to begin.   The lot of you had experienced Tympi's Disappearance through the eyes of The Writer, and you were able to not only see her but her captor as well: The Unblinking Sein.
The Portable Farm
Discussions were had the following morning about how to proceed with this bizarre dream. Most of you agreed that leaving camp to head towards Tympi disappeared was the way to go. Preparations were made, including explaining the Resonating Slingshot again, and a catcher was set up in a chest to store any smaller items that you wanted to return.   Before anyone could head out on a long journey though, some testing had to be done! The Portable Farm that Kaswink had created was in dire need of testing, and a helpless little Darryl (a charcoal colored squirrel) was nearby. Conveniently enough it was wearing a harness and leash. Kaswink instructed Darryl to enter the portable farm, and, much to everyone's horror, discovered that it was not visible inside the diorama she had carved. Frightened, she pulled on the leash hoping to free the squirrel from its spiraling fate. Thankfully, she was able to do just that and it was freed with some incredible effort.   The squirrel was mostly fine it seemed, and the only difference was a small cowlick had formed causing its hair to twist a little bit. Or maybe that was always there? Probably just its style... You all spent some time trying to decide if Agave was capable of talking to animals before settling on the fact that yes, he definitely would have prepared that spell.   Darryl didn't have much information to reveal, though he did confirm that there was water and that the passage into the stump didn't feel like anything.
Kaswink was next to try entering the Portable Farm. The rest of you saw her stretch and spiral into this other realm, and from Kaswink's perspective it just felt like stepping forward. A brief moment of weightless nothingness was prevelant, and then she was in a new area. Her rope stretched behind her into nothingness, and she could see the "farm" around her. The water that the squirrel saw wasn't apparent at first, though she did eventually look up to see an incredibly large stretch of water above her. This water had a rather slow gyre running from its perimeter all the way to the center in a rather uneasy shape.   Kaswink, not seeing a direct way out, decided to begin meditating to "be like the earth". She focussed on a repetative task to find where she was most comfortable. An attempt to enter a trance and ground herself in this repatition, like a visual mantra almost.   She felt herself becoming more and more connected to the ground, and as she meditated she did indeed enter a trance and soon again felt the nothingness that she felt as she entered as if standing in the eye of a hurricane. She soon fell backwards before reappearing in front of everyone else. She explained what she saw to the group. The biggest concern discovered is that there's no dirt... how're you gonna get dirt into a world that doesn't accept dirt?
Heading West
After a lengthy discussion resulting in the eventual agreement from all present parties that you should be finding Tympi and that you should head west on the off chance that neither a Mothlight Tree or a Croak is found.   After the first day of travel you happened upon the path you were on when you first entered The Gates. As you arrived at this path, some of you heard a strange noise coming from nearby: the sound of bells ringing. Agave, Kaswink and Hysteria decided to sneak off in that direction. They were successful in their sneaking efforts and found themselves gazing upon a spectacular sight.   There were five Mothlings flying through the woods in a uniform formation, they were wearing pious clothing and carrying and wearing bells. They were unaware of your presence, and Kaswink decided to make herself seen in a non-threatening way. Due to her appearance, and her low charisma reflected in that along with her social awkwardness she did scare three of the mothlings away. The two that remained were calmed by Hysteria and Agave, and they apologized while preying and begging for forgiveness for treating outsiders in such a rude manner.
In an effort to better help you they offered a way into The Hidden Village of Mothlights. This method would involve drinking copious amounts of the liquor that Agave had already drank half a bottle of.   They did have another idea in mind, however, they desired to meet the rest of the Spiritual Travelers. The three members of the away team and these two Mothling Pilgrims went back up north to where they had separated from Frode, DAN and Namina, and the session wrapped up around there.
