The Succession of Tympi's Forest

After meeting Croak, the Spiritual Travelers learned of some political unrest involving Tympi's Forest.
Current Event
Tympi's Home! - On Nurend 19, 308, the Spiritual Travelers managed to get Tympi home. They had to pass through a rather unpleasant encounter with the very same The Unblinking Sein that took Tympi 50 years ago and Ilven far more recently. The fear caused by this creature has left the group incredibly exhausted and they are spending some much needed downtime resting.   Tympi is also resting. It may take quite awhile before she is healthy again as she spent several decades experiencing what the Spiritual Travelers only had to feel for less than a minute.
After arriving in the Mothlights, Tympi was escorted away by members of her court. She was likely taken to her house, and the Spiritual Travelers were rewarded with thanks from those they helped the last time they were here. They now have free lodging, free alcohol, free food, and one free item from Pondside Paraphernalia. They may have other rewards awaiting them if they Visit Tympi.   Many questions should be considered while Tympi is resting: What of her sister? What of Croak? and what of these tourists that are coming into the Spirit World? Also, there are many personal leads that each person has to consider looking into. Perhaps those can be followed as well.

Plot points/Scenes

Meet Croak, The Interim Magician!
The Spiritual Travelers encountered Croak and a group of Myotlings in the midst of some adorable fisticuffs. Despite their inability to trust people at this time thanks to a nearby Two of Cups, some of the party, particularly Namina, were able to get some information about the situation which led to them siding with Croak.   Croak has since informed them all of what's going on and the Spiritual Travelers offered their assistance in solving the matter.
Heading West to Find Tympi
The Spiritual Travelers witnessed Tympi's disappearance through the eyes of The Writer. They were able to see what she looks like, the thing that took her, and the location she was in when she disappeared. After this shared dream, they all decided to abandon the construction of their Expedition Base for the time being and see if they can find Tympi.
Research
After entering The Hidden Village of Mothlights, they met several mothlings and learned more about their culture and Tympi. They also learned more about the political environment after Tympi had vanished and how Croak had been made the new leader of the forest not too long after she vanished. The mothling child explained that "Croak said there's no way to find her" and then he was put into power. Croak was briefly referred to as a Usurper which raised some concerns from a mothling child worried that they were part of "the others, the ones that left."   Agave found some leads while investigating the map in Tympi's House as well.
The Page of Swords
The Page of Swords revealed themselves to be the one watching the Spiritual Travelers. They've explained their purpose is to record everything they see and protect it. Their mission and path has since been limited from one of free investigative journalism to finding Tympi... for the past 50 years they've been lost and frightened, completely the reverse of their normal social and excited self. They've offered their assistance to the Spiritual Travelers and have begun traveling with them while answering any questions they might have.
The Well of Darkness
The Spiritual Travelers encountered The Well of Darkness on Nurend 15, 308 while heading towards The Old Woman's Cottage. It raised several questions and answered little, but the iconography of centipedes, darkness flowing like water from a well and an Unusual Fragment suggest it may have something to do with that king in The Maze, and the presence of this darkness coupled with the vision of Tympi are leading them to suspect this king could be responsible.
Ilven Arrives
After interviewing an Old Woman for a time, she suddenly turned into a wooden mannequin in front of the Spiritual Travelers. Shortly after this a mantis named Logren knocked at the door before fighting them into submission. After they kneeled before this knight, a message was sent out to the carriage before Ilven, Tympi's sister who had only ever been seen in paintings in her house, stepped forth and explained some events to these outsiders.   She accused them of being the harbingers of doom that she had seen omens of, and that, should they complete their mission, the amount of outsiders that would arrive would cast the world back into darkness. She brought them back to Thera Relovut to show them the statue, and to eventually give them something that she had been holding on to. The statue caused most of these travelers to go blind, some to be paralyzed, and Frode, whom read none of it, to be perfectly fine.   Ilven confessed to taking Tympi as a means of protecting her sister and the forest from the dangers to come.   Frode was the only one to see the purple comet moth resembling Tympi, and after failing to save the jar or Ilven from the darkness, the group was arrested.
On the Road Again
Ilven is missing, apparently taken by the same thing that she encouraged to take Tympi for her. The Spiritual Travelers have very little to go off of to find either of thes beings, but they do have a mysterious Lantern with visions of different parts of the forest. One of the visions, shown only once to Namina, seems to have a familiar throne, though finding it will be tricky. On Nurend 16, 308, they decided to determine just how much of the forest had rain somehow, and also travel towards The Night City of Dorchar to see the sights while visiting a special Tattoo Shop.
Nurend 16-18, 308
No Challengers Remain - Ilven and Tympi are now both missing. With no other challengers, Croak is the leader of Tympi's forest without opposition. The Spiritual Travelers still have a need to find both Tympi and Ilven, but the "succession" has been decided for the time being.   The only lead they have right now for either being is a magical Lantern given to them by someone from Thera Relovut. This lantern has shown visions of the rest of the forest to these travelers, though one special vision showed a throne being consumed by the roots of a large Mothlight Tree. This vision has yet to be seen again, though it seems significant.   TYMPI!? - It would appear, by Namina's own claim, that the gift from Logren, The Mantis Knight may actually be Tympi. Though all she saw was the outline of an unmoving moth, she is convinced that this is Tympi inside this wrapped up jar. The rest of the Spiritual Travelers are quite uncertain as to whether or not this information should be provided, and they are even less certain of what exactly it means for Tympi to be in such a form. They've claimed it would be bad to show Croak, or any Mothlings, or anyone for that matter. Though some of the group seems convinced that it may be better to ask for help since this is an unusual land and they are all outsiders. Only time will tell what actually happens with this jar or the mysterious contents.
Nurend 18, 308
We Found Tympi! - Early in the morning of Nurend 18, 308, the Spiritual Travelers found Tympi while in a Suite at the top of the Casino in Dorchar. At first all that was visible was a slightly tinted glass jar with a purple glow inside. Namina eventually opened the jar after several distractions were overcome and found a purple Comet Moth inside. After a flash of light, some blindness and deafness caushing a great deal of disorientation, and time she was able to see that this moth had transformed into an exhausted Tympi.   There's still some distrust for the Fae amongst the Spiritual Travelers, and Tympi is trying desparately to earn their trust, but it might take some time. She offered to help them by helping Frode's biggest complaints, and after she grabbed her Lantern everyone was blinded by a flash of light.   Depending on what comes of this flash, the Spiritual Travelers may need to find a way to get Tympi back home, at which point the quest to find her successor will be complete.
The flash of light proved to be mostly nothing as Tympi seems without much energy or power. She has requested the Spiritual Travelers take her to her home in the mothlights so that she can rest and heal. They agreed to do so, and a journey west towards the nearest Mothlight Tree has been undertaken.   While traveling west, several questions were asked for Tympi including one regarding Croak and Ilven. She explained that she honestly would've gone with Ilven, but was glad to hear that Croak upheld her beliefs of guiding outsiders.

Structure

Exposition

It would seem that there are two factions: Tympi's Court and Ilven's Court which are led by Croak and Ilven respectively. Ilven's Court was formed after Croak was chosen to lead this forest instead of her. She believes that, as Tympi's Sister, she should be the rightful heir while Croak was chosen democratically by Tympi's Court. For the last 50 years they have been in a very slow building conflict with each other.

Conflict

While the two groups have lived relatively "peacefully" the past 50 years, there has been a sense of rising tension between them.   This tension reached a breaking point when a group of four Myotlings attacked the current leader of the forest, Croak, with hopes of taking him back to Ilven for unknown reasons. The Spiritual Travelers have sided with Croak and Tympi's Court in this conflict which has led to further distrust from Ilven and the Myotlings.

Components

Goals

The following are goals which could be accomplished to finish this plot. Alternatively, these could be ignored and other paths could easily be taken. These are simply here in case additional guidance or ideas are needed depending on the player. It mostly contains ideas that were brought up by y'all and basic approaches to the situation. Other ideas are, of course, always available and an option.
  • Meet with Croak and learn of the recent history of Tympi's Forest. (Completed)

  • A Peaceful Solution
    • Option 1: Speak with the conflicting parties
      • Speak with Ilven's Court
        • The Myotlings suggested staying away from Thera Relovut
        • Croak provided a vague idea of where this "Thera Relovut" is
      • Speak with Tympi's Court
        • Was brought up by Croak while explaining the situation
        • May have something to do with the described "mothlights"
      • Bring them together for diplomatic discussion

    • Option 2: Find Tympi - COMPLETE
      • Investigate where she was last seen - COMPLETED
        • After a strange dream where the Spiritual Travelers witnessed the disappearance of Tympi 50 years ago, they have now learned what she looks like and what the thing that took her looks like. They're now traveling across Tympi's Forest to the location she was seen last, abandoning their base in the meantime.
        • Croak mentioned that she was last seen by The Writer on the western side of Tympi's Forest.
        • It was also mentioned that she was taken by something called an Unblinking Sein by both Croak and The Field Guide
        • While investigating this area, the Spiritual Travelers discovered The Well of Darkness. They also met Ilven, and it was revealed that Ilven had taken Tympi with hopes of protecting her and the forest from the dangers that were coming. After Ilven's confession, however, she was also taken by either the same creature or something incredibly similar.
      • Ask other Mothlings or Croak for more info - COMPLETED
        • While researching in The Hidden Village of the Mothlights, some suspicious information about Croak was uncovered. Apparently he claimed there was no way that they were going to find Tympi before being named the next leader of the forest.
          • This raises some questions about just who should be Tympi's Successor. The Myotlings that were encountered were originally dismissed when claiming it should be Ilven, but most of the group still seems to believe Croak is on the level at this time.
        • Croak mentioned something called "The Mothlights" which he refused to divulge more information on until Frode swore to not inform his king about the secret.
        • It was also mentioned at one point that some Mothlings are searching The Gates for Tympi.
          • The Spiritual Travelers encountered a group of Mothling Pilgrims, and they might be able to find Croak again along with the Mothlights.
          • A new ally has been discovered, the mothling known as the Page of Swords has offered their knowledge and expertise. They have an impressive amount of knowledge to spare.
      • Investigate Logren's Gift - COMPLETED
        • While traversing Pluarsh ec Relovut, Namina opened the gift from Logren under the cover of the Extra Wide Umbrella. She discovered that it contained the outline of an unmoving moth which she suspected to be Tympi after considering what Frode had seen while the rest of the group was blinded. If this jar and the one that Ilven had are one and the same, then this moth is likely to be either Tympi or a moth that greatly resembles her.
        • The gift was opened at long last while in a Suite at the top of the Casino in Dorchar. A Purple Comet Moth was found inside after the lid was taken off which ended up turning into Tympi.
    • Get Tympi Home! - COMPLETED
      • The Spiritual Travelers freed Tympi, though she is in pain, disoriented, going blind and whatever else might be happening. She's struggling to keep a brave face, and is still offering to provide guidance and help to all of you despite her own anguish, but there is still clearly something wrong with her. She voiced a need to get home, and offered to take you all there with her before grabbing her Lantern and causing a blinding flash of light to occur.
        • This flash of light proved to be mostly nothing as it revealed the same room they were in along with a collapsed Tympi after it faded. Seems she is going to need some help getting home so she can rest and heal up.
      • Additionally, news of Tympi's return will need to be spread throughout the forest somehow, and the appropriate parties will need to be contacted including the leaders of different communities. Everyone, especially Tympi's old friends, will need to know she's back home. Alternatively, no one should know, we wouldn't want her going missing again, right? The Spiritual Travelers have a lot of decisions to think on.

Stakes

Aside from the moral significance of helping a large number of fae creatures in this mysterious land, there are other things at stake when considering the conflict between these two factions.   Safe Passage: Settling this disagreement will greatly improve the safety for not only the Spiritual Travelers but also the future tourists.   Approval from Quince: Having Quince's approval to move forward with a more permanent gate helps tourists get into the Spirit World and helps resources get out. It improves relations between the two realms and can open up all sorts of great possibilities for technology and medicine. However, more than this, it also means that the Spiritual Travelers would have the opportunity to leave.   Angry Fae: Ignoring the issue or dealing with it in a violent way could result in earning the ire of some adorable fae along with the much more scary ire of the archfae Ilven. What this means is unclear, but wandering the forest while dealing with the constant onslaught of butterflies doesn't sound too appealing.
