Alder

Each district within the walls of The City Sidere elects an alder as their leader. The seven alders together form the Court of Alders, which rules the city alongside the Prince and The Royal Court.

Appointment

Alders are nominally selected by popular vote. However, some districts are more true to this ideal and put more effort into keeping the vote fair than others. The Ravenbarrow alder, for example, is typically selected by a consortium of crime lords, with little pretense at giving the average resident a say. Some alderships are contested every three years, while other alders often run unopposed. Overall, alders tend to hold onto their seat unless they truly fail their constituents.
