Samuel Eshpard
Sam's history is long and storied, tied deeply in the history of Loredas. He was adopted by the Ascended Heroes who, under direction of Adam Faera saved Loredas from corruption and assisted bringing Arcadia strongly onto the world stage. He was adopted by the hero Crimson who trained him in the druidic arts, while the other travelers trained him in various methods of adventuring and self defense.
When the travelers disappeared Sam stayed behind, using what they taught him to become a renowned hero. Traveling the world, he assisted people everywhere he went. On his travels he met the woman who would become his wife Celeste Carillion, though she tragically died birthing his son. The boy, Crimson Eshpard, carrying on his father's adventurous spirit stowed himself away on the expedition to the edge of the world against Sam's wishes. By the time he realized where his son had gone, the expedition was already past the storm wall where he could not be reached. Though the boy was spirited and skilled, he was not one of the 3 out of 150 to survive the journey. When news of his son's death reached him, he took the few belongings he had, his father's cloak and shepard's crook and left his home for the last time.
Sam was seen several times in the Shade under Loredas fighting the dangerous corrupted shades there. With nothing left to live for he was hoping to simply do as much good as possible before dying in battle. It wasn't until meeting the Godkillers and finding something left behind by a very old friend that he was able to approach his mission with renewed vigor. He continued to fight the corrupted shades but this time in a manner to send fear through the monsters and push them back from the city of Shade's end.
Nearly twenty years later, Sam returned to Loredas to much public surprise. His name was one spoken in ballads and bedtime stories that many citizens had lived through the events of while they happened. His return in the wake of the power vacuum left by his friend Adam Faera's death made many incorrectly assume that he would take a more prominent role in politics. When he insisted on the release of Explorer Captain Iman, to deny him would have risked public outcry, so the Consul Maximilian Caelos V complied.
Sam and Iman went on to secretly break into Waterfront Industries headquarters and dig through their dirty laundry to pin down their late friend Adam Faera's assassination plot. When Sam found out that the Arcadian prince Oliver Reynold would be executed on charges of Vampirism, he and Iman snuck into the palace dungeon to break him out. Sam's political pull didn't extend to him being able to kidnap a standing prince awaiting execution, however, but he took full responsibility for the action and became another Lordasan fugitive with Iman smuggling him, Tandil Eranthur, and the Prince out.
Sam had met the prince a few times in his life, being a close confidant of his tutor, Adam Faera. He blamed himself partially for the political turmoil of his home kingdom of Arcadia due to his absence. He was away when Adam Faera was assassinated and the Arcadian crown was executed, which, along with his history is why he is personally invested in Oliver Reynold's safety. He stayed with Oliver on the Liberation-3 C for a short time, playing chess and strategic war games with him. Despite Sam having a solid strategic mind, after winning the first game, he had lost every match against Oliver since.
After ensuring the prince's safety in the wake of Balimor being awoken, he stood as the sole force between the god of destruction and the complete reset of the world. Holding back the god from Loredas, the last source of Aether keeping the world intact for nearly a week, he was able to bide time for the Godkillers to outfit their ship to move through time to weaken the creature, and eventually return just in time with the combined forces of Loredas to strike back and weaken the god. Unable to stop an immortal creature, Sam realized the only way to stop the pure embodiment of Deridah would be to force it into a mortal shell. He took the god into his body and attempted to hold it in himself while it used his power to lash out at his friends. The Godkillers were forced to comply with his wishes to strike him down in order to save the world.
Upon his death, the combined concentration of nearly all the Aether and Deridah in the world was suddenly released, causing the Soulburst. This created the new orange sun Eshpard and bestowed a new 12 Aetherial Gods and 12 Archfiends with the leftover Aether and Deridah respectively.
