Emperor/Empress of the Gratic Empire

Requirements

The position is hereditary, and is usually passed on to the eldest son of the previous Emperor or Empress. If there are no sons, a daughter will be chosen, and if there has been no instances where the Emperor or Empress did not have a child to pass the title to. If the Emperor- or Empress-to-be is under the age of eighteen, then the Imperial Council will take over until he or she has reached that age.

Appointment

The coronation of a new Emperor or Empress is a very public and very grandiose affair, with a week-long festival and competitions of various sorts taking place throughout that time. The ceremony itself is presided over by the High Priest of the Imperial Temple and has always been held in the Gratic City Temple of Etheric.

Duties

The Emperor or Empress is the embodiment of the power and prestige of the Empire, and so that responsibility comes with a few duties:
  • Being a voice for the people and listening to his or her people's needs;
  • Upholding the honour of the Empire in every task he or she does; and
  • Demonstrating the compassion and kindness of the Empire by helping the downtrodden and the helpless.
  • Responsibilities

    In a phrase, the Emperor or Empress is in charge of the Empire and making sure its various levels of bureaucracy and its various subsidiary organizations work together without issue. In pursuing that goal, there are many responsibilities involved:
  • Delegating tasks to the various members of the Imperial Council;
  • Deciding what kinds of members he or she wants on the Imperial Council; and
  • Making sure that the Imperial Council can work together and come to decisions, providing the final vote when it is needed.
  • Benefits

    The Emperor or Empress is easily the richest and most powerful person in the Empire, if not the entire world.

    Accoutrements & Equipment

    The traditional dress of the Emperor or Empress is a long robe of the deepest scarlet, a golden sceptre, and the Crown of Dreams, a silver circlet encrusted with hundreds of small rubies.

    History

    The Emperors and Empresses of the Gratic Empire have seen the rise and fall of the nation as wars were waged and lost. There have been a total of twenty-one such leaders in the nearly four centuries of the Empire's existence.

    Cultural Significance

    The Empire controls the way of life of its people, and the Emperor has always been the one who has determined how and in what way the Empire has this control. Imperial holidays and tax collection days are celebrated by all.
