Admiral of the Imperial Navy
Qualifications
An Admiral of the Imperial Navy must have at least fifteen years of experience at sea, with five of them having been spent as a Captain of the Imperial Army/Imperial Navy. He or she must also be able to read and write without assistance.
Requirements
Only human citizens of The Gratic Empire have been permitted to be Admirals of the Imperial Navy. Many Admirals have had ancestors that were Captains or Lieutenants in the Imperial Army, although this is not necessary by any means.
Appointment
Candidates for the position of Admiral are recommended by the Captains of the Imperial Navy and given to the Emperor for approval. The person chosen for the role is then fêted accordingly with a regatta of Imperial Navy ships in Freeport, which is followed by feasting and celebration.
Duties
An Admiral has a very key role in coastal cities and in the realm at large:
keeping up the morale of his Captains, who do the same for their men;
representing the interests of the Imperial Navy in the imperial government and at special events; and
reassuring and protecting the citizens of coastal towns and villages from pirates and raiders.
Responsibilities
An Admiral has a few responsibilities necessary for the smooth running of the Imperial Navy:
providing orders to the Captains of the Navy;
ordering the construction of sea defences and naval blockades; and
strategizing offences and defences that take place on the ocean.
Benefits
An Admiral has a significant amount of political power in the Empire, as they have a position on the Imperial Council and a small amount of influence over the Imperial Army as well as the Navy. Monetarily, an Admiral is well-rewarded for his work, and he gets a manor in Gratic City and another in Freeport as his place of operations whenever he is not on campaign.
Accoutrements & Equipment
An Admiral has two outfits; one in wartime and another in peacetime. During a conflict, the Admiral wears a specially made set of padded armour that is rumoured to be magical. Whenever not engaged in combat or during a peace, they will instead wear robes of sea-green with a gilded trim.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
The position is too new to have had an Emperor dismiss or discharge their Admirals, but it would be the Emperor's job to do so if such an event were to occur.
History
There have only been three Admirals since the formation of the position, but they have used all of their limited funds to try and grow the size of the Imperial Navy.
