Atuao'umi (a.tu.a.o.ˈʔu.mi)
Atuao'umi is a major archipelago in the Southern Region. It has over six hundred islands, including two of the largest islands in the Great Ring. These islands are Motu and Atu Motu, and they dominate the center of the region, separated by the narrow Vā o Manogi.
Points of Interest
The city of Tauranga is the place where outsiders are most likely to land within Atuao'umi. Located on the northern coast of Atu Motu, it is the largest port in the archipelago. Visitors to Tauranga are encouraged to visit the zoo there, one of the only such establishments open to visitors in the world. Those who travel further south can see the magnificent peak of Te Tihi in the heart of Atu Motu, where the Atua congregate.
Geography
Atuao'umi covers a vast area, measuring over 850 miles from the northern tip of Atu Motu to the southern coast of Matamata. It is comparitavely narrow, with a widest point of about 325 miles. The islands in Atuao'umi are known for their high mountains and rough coastlines, and travel through the interior of the larger islands can be slow and difficult.
