Hawker Nebula

One of the most prominent features in the sector, the Hawking nebula stretches from parsec 2532 as far rimward 34 and and counterspinward as 30, covering all the worlds of the Cincastrella Confederacy and a respectable portion of the DRY. The Hawker Nebula has a reputation for fostering rebellion, as two of the most prominent Stelsoc societies, the Democratic Republic of Yuanjing, and the Cincastrella Confederacy were founded in the systems within the Nebula. This nebula lost much of its Mass during the Great Cataclysm, but sheltered many of the systems in the region from its worst effects. This protective feature meant that the worlds within the Nebula are some of the most developed in charted space, with the possible exception of some worlds within the Sol Sector, with a handful of worlds even maintaining a Late Stellar, or Pre-Fall level of technological development.

Geography

The Hawker Nebula exists entirely within the Pariah Sector, and is comparatively modest in size. The boundaries of the nebula stretch from its corward point in Pariah parsec 2831, as far rimward 3134. Its spinward limit is Pariah parsec 2531, and its counterspinward extent is found at parsec 3334. Traditionally, the nebula was significantly larger, though the events of the Great Cataclysm resulted in the Nebula shrinking by as much as a third, with much of this mass being ejected in the direction of the galactic core. There are fourteen star systems within the nebula, all of which are currently inhabited. The Hawker Nebula is currently split between the Cincastrella Confederacy, and the Democratic Republic of Yuanjing, who coexist relatively peacefully, though the State of Pariah is currently laying claim to the whole of the Pariah Sector and therefore all worlds within the Hawker Nebula, and Pariah fleets have been seen traversing the space of the nebula.

Localized Phenomena

As is the case with most nebula, the Hawker makes jump travel within its bounds somewhat difficult as the diffuse space dust interferes with the functioning of jump drives. The Hawker is especially difficult in this matter, and indeed, the Jump Gate Network was especially dense within the nebula to ensure that proper functioning of jump travel could be maintained in the days of unity. The nebula's density however, makes Hawker more resilient in the face of major interstellar events such as radioactive pulsars, the shocks of novae, and this results in the effects of those events having a reduced impact of the systems within the nebula.

Natural Resources

The Hawker Nebula, thanks to the increased density of the space dust, even beyond other nebulae, has resulted in a very rich resource base. Mineral wealth of worlds found within the nebula are extremely valuable. Large amounts of rare materials can be found on worlds, and asteroids within the nebula, and rare gases such as Calomine gas, a vital component in the construction of jump gates, are found in abundance as part of the nebula itself. The Hawker Nebula also produced an unusually high quantity of organic compounds, and worlds that could made suited for human habitation with minimal, if any actual terraforming, and less immunity preparation. This allowed the worlds of the nebula to be settled thoroughly, even if relatively late in the case of Cincastrella, despite the challenges of interstellar travel within nebulae.
