Hadun

Demographics

Hadun has a large gnome population, as well as a reasonably high dwarf population. Any in the Empire that wish to tinker and build will often travel to Hadun, as it is the leading industrial city.

Government

The Hadun City Council runs Hadun in the day to day matters, though they answer to the wider Empire for anything important. Hadun's council is small, but contentious. Balrik Underspite and Ythor Goldenshadow are in constant conflict, both wanting more power for themselves. Indrid Barkrirsk constantly plays them off each other, while quietly using the chaos as cover for more of her experiments.

Defences

Hadun's defenses are old, battered, and battle tested. Now fortified with deeds, few would think of attacking the center of the Empire's war machine. There are four sections of the city, each walled off with a few towers overlooking them.

Industry & Trade

Much of the Imperial war machine is built in Hadun, supplied with mining near the Kingdom of Clockwork, along with limited trade with Dwarven city states, as well as trains from Azar and Thamidir.

Districts

  • Prismari District
  • Rainbow Ward, heart of the Imperial Research Division. Has a number of strange grates that regularly spew multicolored steam
  • Candle Market is the night Market in the Brightsword District
  • The Imperial District, also known as the Brightsword District
  • Ravensford District is the other residential area, near Prismari and Rainbow
  • The Walled Market is the Dwarven and Gnomish area, primarily Mountain Dwarves and Rock Gnomes from the Clockwork Kingdom who for one reason or another live in Hadun
  • Market Delve is the Market in the Ravensford District

Guilds and Factions

  • The Imperial Research Division holds a quiet control over the city. The war between the Imperial Industrial Complex and the Forsaken is loud and public, but this is intentional. All the while, Indrid Barkrirsk runs an incredibly tight ship, with little information getting out about what she's up to. Occasionally, strange phenomenon will engulf the city, like a wave of pink fog, or every tea kettle becoming sentient for ten minutes. Everyone assumes (correctly) that this is the result of the Imperial Research Division. Their Headquarters is beneath the Rainbow Ward, and they devise all of the things the Imperial Industrial Complex builds, and much more. Their deeds are kept in place by armed groups of Draconians, who are more than happy to slaughter anyone who gets out of line, but otherwise leaves people to their work.
  • The Imperial Industrial Complex is ran by Balrik Underspite, a spiteful Duergar smith, and much of his ethics pervade the entire organization. Managers work their workers incredibly hard. In return, they and their families are taken care of personally by the Empire. They are paid well for their work, though if their skill begins to flag they will be dismissed just as quickly. The Complex makes everything the Imperial war machine needs, from siege engines to Warforged. Many are artificers, either mages with engineering experience, or engineers with magic experience. If called on, all are expected to aid the Imperial Guard in battles against the Forsaken (described below).
  • The Forsaken control much of the city outside of the factories and laboratories. They are known as the Forsaken because they believe that the Empire has abandoned those outside of its war machine. Joining the Forsaken requires making a pact with its leader, Ythor Goldenshadow, and consequently his master, Jaadim, a powerful Dao who wishes to rule Hadun as a god. The Forsaken acts as his followers, a massive thieves guild ordered to bring treasure to their master in exchange for power.

Architecture

The different sections of the city look quite different from each other, though due to deeds none are falling apart. Much of the city is made of brown stone, mined from below the Fractured Highlands. The Prismari, Ravensford, and Rainbow Wards are all exceptionally crowded, as comes with a city that cannot really expand. The streets are more like alleys, constantly winding and cramping space. Many people use the roofs as a faster method of travel. The Walled Market looks quite different from the rest of the city, built from the gray stones the Dwarves brought from their strongholds. The Imperial District tends to be bright and colorful, adorned with silks and cloth of all the hues of the rainbow.
