Bayleaf

Bayleaf was an elven mercenary that was employed by the Cult of Bane to protect their outpost on the Isle of the Abbey. He was taken captive by the Heroes of Saltmarsh but escaped, only to be captured by sahuagin and worked to death as a slave.

History

At some point prior to 1492, Bayleaf was hired to protect a Cult of Bane outpost on the Isle of the Abbey by the chapter's leader, Ordurn. During his time on the isle, Bayleaf discovered that the basement of the abbey contained a secret dungeon hidden, called the Winding Way, behind a shrine to Bane, though he never explored it for fear of angering the cultists.
In 1492, the Isle of the Abbey was attacked by the Sea Prince Syrgaul, who came searching for treasure. Bayleaf was unable to hold the pirates back, who destroyed the abbey but failed to locate its hidden basement. Due to the pirates destroying all boats on the isle, Bayleaf spent the next four years trapped. During this time, tensions between Bayleaf and the other cultists, namely the new leader Ozymandius and Odium grew high.
On the 25 of Eleasis 1496, the Heroes of Saltmarsh, alongside Krisella Ferox, arrived at the Isle of the Abbey, pursuing a lead about the strange spiral symbol they had recently discovered. There, the adventurers killed all of the abbey's remaining inhabitants, save for Odium and Bayleaf, who they took hostage. After Odium was killed by being tricked into entering the Winding Way, Bayleaf was imprisoned in the Big Nauti's hidden holding cell.
Four days later, Bayleaf managed to escape from the adventurers when he magically charmed Krisella Ferox into letting him go. However, while plotting his revenge, Bayleaf was captured by a group of sahuagin slavers and taken to the Javan River Spire. There, Bayleaf was forced for months to engage in painful heavy labor sinking the spire. He was found by the Heroes of Saltmarsh during the Battle of the Spire, but was badly injured and succumbed to his wounds shortly after.
