Breastplate of the Chromatic Dragon
The Breastplate of the Chromatic Dragon is one of the six pieces of the Armor of Tiamat and the only piece required to complete a ritual to summon Tiamat. It is made from scales of the original five chromatic dragons.
It was worn by Don Rel during the Battle at the Well of Dragons and was inside the Chromatic Pentagram when it sunk back into Avernus.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
On its own, the Breastplate of the Chromatic Dragon appears to be an ornate breastplate made of dragon scales, fit for a large creature. However, when a creature touches the breastplate, it shrinks or grows to fit their size. Unlike the other pieces of the Armor of Tiamat, the Breastplate of the Chromatic Dragon does not meld itself to the wearer's body. Rather, it serves as extremely well made armor that serves as a conduit for any summoning magic related to Tiamat.
Significance
The Breastplate of the Chromatic Dragon is the centerpiece of the Armor of Tiamat. The breastplate serves as the conduit for any rituals designed to summon Tiamat, due to association with all 5 chromatic dragon types.
In 1492, Don Rel, the leader of the Cult of the Dragon, wore the breastplate during the Battle at the Well of Dragons, where he attempted to bring Tiamat into the Prime Material Plane. He was stopped and killed by the Breadwinners, and the breastplate sunk with the Chromatic Pentagram into Avernus.
