Clan Velgrund
Clan Velgrund is an exiled dwarven clan currently based out of the Burrows district of Neverwinter planning their reconquest of their stolen stronghold, Nettlemurk Hall.
History
For centuries, the dwarves of Clan Velgrund lived in Nettlemurk Hall in Northwest Faerun. While never a major stronghold geopolitically, Nettlemurk Hall was nonetheless known and respected.
Near the beginning of the 15th century, Clan Velgrund's chief artificer Riswyn Thunderbane, retreived an ancient dwarven soul trap on a salvaging expedition that named the God Trap due to its seemingly unlimited capacity. For the next several decades, Riswyn and her apprentices would study the artifact.
In 1418, King Baramir Velgrund ascended to the throne of the clan, inheriting the title from his late mother, Queen Egardia Velgrund.
In late 1434, the black dragon Voaraghammanthar learned of the God Trap and desired it for his own purposes. Voaraghammanthar nested in the mountains around the clan stronghold, slowly turning the land more swampish, until the defences and structure of Nettlemurk Hall was compromised, allowing the dragon to storm inside and steal the God Trap in Hammer of 1436, killing numeorus dwarves along the way, including Riswyn.
Though Voaraghamanthar returned to his traditional resting ground in the Mere of Dead Men, a splinter faction of orcs from the Kingdom of Many-Arrows heard about the clan's weakness and moved south to exploit it, conquering Nettlemurk Hall in Elient of 1436, slaughtering most of its inhabitants. Of the roughly 3000 members of Clan Velgrund from before the attack, only about 200 escaped with their lives.
The survivors of Clan Velgrund fled for their lives, first taking sanctuary in a variety of dwarven strongholds before making an exiled home for themselves in the Burrows of Neverwinter in 1452. Meanwhile, the orcish conquerers of the stronghold renamed Nettlemurk Hall to Gra Krazdagh
Religion
Like most dwarven clans, Clan Velgrund's members overwhelmingly worship the Morndinsamman. It is from Moradin himself that the kings and queens of Clan Velgrund claim their divine mandate to lead.
