Lyssanora Velgrund
Princess Lyssanora Velgrund
Lyssanora Velgrund is the dwarven Crown Princess of Clan Velgrund and heir to its throne. She is the sole daughter of the clan's king, Baramir Velgrund, and his wife Annika, who died defending Lyssanora when she was a baby.
History
Lyssanora was born in Nettlemurk Hall in 1435 to King Baramir and Queen Annika, their first and only child. At the end of 1435, the black dragon Voaraghammanthar temporarily settled near Nettlemurk Hall, slowly terraforming the landscape from rugged mountain to swampland by its presence. In Hammer of 1436, Voaraghammanthar struck at the stronghold, breaking through its weakened and compromised defenses, killing a few clansmen and stealing ar artifact of great power that the clan was researching. Though Voaraghammanthar left after stealing his prize, a splinter faction of orcs from the Kingdom of Many-Arrows noticed the stronghold's weakness and beseiged it, conquering Nettlemurk Hall in Elient of 1436 and slaughtering most of its inhabitants. Among the dead was Lyssanora's mother Annika, who gave her life to defend her newborn daughter. Lyssanora and the other survivors of the massacre, numbering only around 200 of the roughly 3000 total clansmen, began a 15 year long exile, as King Baramir brought them from settlement to settlement for temporarily shelter, before the clan had to move on. During this time, Baramir was also the sole parent and guardian of baby Lyssanora. In 1452, Clan Velgrund moved into a neighborhood of Neverwinter that had been destroyed by the erruption of Mt. Hotenow the previous year. While most of Neverwinter was suffering in a time known as the Chaos, the Velgrunds created an exiled stronghold in the Burrows. In 1469, Dagult Neverember began his New Neverwinter project to rebuild the city with himself as its new lord. As part of the deal securing Velgrund cooperation in rebuilding efforts, Clan Velgrund was allowed to stay in the Burrows and retained some degree of autonomy. It was during this time, the rebuilding and revitalization of Neverwinter, and its return to a regional power, that Lyssanora spent most of her late childhood and early adulthood. She struggled often with the duties of being a Crown Princess and the pressures of that position, and very rarely made public appearances, not making her official debut until late 1496. Overtime, Lyssanora would internalize her role and the necessary sacrifices that she would be required to make to ensure her people could live in their homeland in peace. This would include setting aside a discreet romance she had made with a non-dwarven Neveren and agreeing to a politically expediant marriage instead. In 1546, King Baramir passed away from an unexpected illness. Lyssanora, now Queen Velgrund, would succeed her father's position, with her first major act being leading her clan during the Liberation of Nettlemurk Hall the next year.
