Golden Boar Adventuring Company

The Golden Boar Adventuring Company, more informally known as the Golden Boars, is a prestigious adventuring company founded and led by Lenore Marsk. Since its inception, the Golden Boars have operated out of Neverwinter.

Relationship with the Neveren Shepards

As a result of the relationship between Lenore Marsk and the founder of the Neveren Shepards, Callum Nailsmith, the Golden Boars and Neveren Shepards often work closely together on missions where it is appropriate.   This relationship extends to the Golden Boars' guildhall, which the company has shared with the Shepards since the latter's founding in 1493.

Structure

Unlike their partner organization, the Neveren Shepards, the Golden Boars organizational make-up remained consistent across its years of operation, rarely if ever taking on temporary hired help.   As of 1497, the Golden Boars included:
  • Lenore Marsk (human fighter)
  • Elara (elf rogue)
  • Gandrel (gnome wizard)
  • Alistair (half-elf ranger)

History

The Golden Boar Adventuring Company was founded by Lenore Marsk in 1482 as the young woman began her adventuring career.   Over the next several years, the company would grow in prestige, eventually acquiring a guild hall by 1485.   That same year, the Golden Boars took out a contract to explore an abandoned ruin in the Neverwinter Woods that was occupied by bandits. While there, the adventurers discovered the 19-year-old Callun Nailsmith, a young carpenter who was captured by those bandits while searching the woods for ironbark. Indebted, and smitten, to the Golden Boars' leader, Callum begun regurarly hanging out at the company's guildhall, training with Lenore but not joining her on missions.   In 1492, the Golden Boars were among the various mercenaries and adventuring groups hired by Neverwinter to fight in the Great Dragon War. The company saw action at the Battle of Hardbuckler and the Battle at the Well of Dragons, where Lenore played a pivotal role in slaying a Blue Dragon  In 1494, Callum founded the Neveren Shepards, and the Golden Boar guildhall was restructured to give the new adventuring company their own base of operations. Members of both companies would often train with one another, and the Boars took on a mentorship role for the more inexperienced company.   In late 1497, the Golden Boars departed for Clearhallow, on the far side of the High Forest, with the goal of dispelling the Curse of Clearhallow. However, while the company did find the cause of the curse, a magical mind-altering crystal touched by the god Cyric, each of the four members instead fell victim to the crystal becoming little more than zombie-like guardians of the crystal as part of the Cult of Cyric  The Boars remained as unwilling members of the Cult of Cyric until Ches of 1498, when they were rescued by the Unstompables, a hastily-formed adventuring company that included Callum Nailsmith and fellow Shepard Robyn Goodfellow. The Unstompables shattered the cursed crystal, ending its mind-altering powers and freeing the Golden Boars from its sway.   Following their captivity in Clearhallow, the Boars returned to Neverwinter to continue adventuring, with the much stronger Callum and Robyn more often joining them on their adventures.
