Tellurian Federation Space Navy
Establishment of the TFSN is dated to 2501 during the First Interstellar War when New Canada sent four brand-new flow-pressure ships armed with upgraded plasma missiles and EMD beam weapons to the Thoreskal nexus to demand the return of Huddersite prisoners. Although they did not identify as military forces of the Tellurian Federation and made their demand in the name of the Interstellar Clearinghouse Academy, this was considered the first action of the Tellurian Federation Space Navy.
Structure
Admiralty
The Admiralty is divided into 4 Commands, each under an Admiral:- Personnel and Training Command maintains the Naval Academy at Feria Jacinta and the eight Training Docks: Davos Major, Kajam, B-2 (Berehyn), Ajit Nar, Ryken Minor, Arex, Glass Station, and M-3 (Maragonek). The Command is located at Proxen Beta Main Base and is responsible for Assignment and Roster Management, Personnel Readiness, Leadership Development, and Continuing Education.
- Strategy and Intelligence Command is based on Berehyn and manages Research and Development, Strategic Systems, Space Observation and Astrography, Naval Intelligence, and Information Warfare. Principal operational bases for this Command are at Larawag Station, Applerex, and Rykjennarsev. Strategy and Intelligence also houses the quasi-independent General Audit Unit.
- Logistics and Equipment Command, out of Ares Colony, is in charge of Major Asset Procurement (Ships and Weapons Systems), Engineering and Maintenance, Logistical Procurement (Supplies and Ammunition), Medicine and Surgery, and Communications (the Communications Command maintains the Naval Beacon Net and manages the Navy's fleet of packet ships and drones), and Installations Maintenance.
- Finance and Administration Command at Proxen handles Finance and Resources, Testing and Evaluation, Legal Services, the Yeomanry Academy, Facilities Procurement and Administration, Governments Liaisons, and the Naval Archives.
Naval Operations
Under the direction of the Admiral of the Fleet, Operations is divided into two Divisions, each with three sectors. Each sector command has one or more Fleets assigned.UpArc Division

- Sejawanee Sector Command: Montunao Fleet, Ajit Fleet

- Central Sector Command: Central Nexi Fleet (CNF) Major, Central Nexi Fleet (CNF) Minor, Dragoniilli Fleet
- Perimeter Sector Command: Perimeter Fleet; Logistics Fleet, Warakand Fleet
Public Agenda
The primary mission of the TFSN is to provide interstellar space defenses for the member worlds of the Federation, and support the insystem defense services of member worlds.
Secondary missions include providing treaty defense services for Montunao, treaty services for the Interstellar Clearinghouse Academy agencies, providing convoy protection for merchant shipping in conflict conditions, assisting with interstellar Search and Rescue missions, exploring, observing and gathering data about Diaspora space and interstellar space phenomena, assisting member worlds with customs, quarantine and law enforcement issues, and maintaining peace in the flow plots.

Assets
Ships
While specific numbers of various types of ships are classified information, the Tellurian Federation Space Navy has in excess of 350 capital ships (Battleships/Ships of War and Cruisers), approximately 600 Destroyers, around 200 Corvettes and over 300 Frigates, as well as numerous small boats and special ships types. (See Naval Ship Types and Classes for additional information and specifications.)Weapons Systems
In addition to ship-mounted weapons, the TFNS maintains a large number of fixed weapons platforms. These are mainly placed in node-adjacent outsystem defense perimeters for Federation member worlds, but several are station-oriented to protect naval bases, shipyards and other assets. Most platforms use Enhanced Shrapnel Howitzer (ESH) arrays, combined with Myrandon Zed-9 Gravitic Lance emplacements in crossfire configuration. Some are equipped with EMD Pulse Spread mortars. While the Navy, naturally, does not disclose the precise numbers or locations of weapons platforms, the budget allocations for procurement, maintenance and replacement would be sufficient for upwards of 300 such platforms.Shipyards and Bases
The Federation Navy has more than 350 bases, shipyards, and permanent installations within Diaspora space, mostly located in or near Federation member world systems. However, it is estimated that the Navy has more than 20 facilities in allied systems or by treaty, and it is known to have more than a dozen covert facilities.Personnel
Drawing on more than two dozen member worlds and colonies, the TFSN is able to maintain a very large personnel complement. The Admiralty commands include more than 230,000 officers, non-commissioned and enlisted personnel. Operations commands include more than 450,000 personnel. Known reserve strength is over 220,000. (See also Naval Ship Crew for ranks and duty assignments in the Operations commands.)History
The Navy was formally established as a Federation-wide military service in 2503 in the wake of the First Interstellar War. Initially based in the Sol.Tellus System, the Admiralty headquarters moved to Berehyn in 2520.
By the time terrorist actions during the Samarian Crusade became widespread, the Federation Navy had more than forty bases and over a hundred capital ships, which were largely sufficient to protect Federation worlds. After the Bombing of Montunao, the Interstellar Clearinghouse Academy requested Signatories to rotate space-based protection for their facilities, and the mission of the Federation Navy began to expand.
In 2584 during the I-Fleet Wars, the TFSN provided contingents of convoy escort, further expanding the mission. The Navy participated in blockade actions in concert with allied forces during conflicts surrounding the Collapse of the Xihe Stellation, but took no other active part in that conflict.
During the Cordini Rebellion, the Federation established commercial relationships with the Vegan Colonial Union, and provided covoy protection for specific merchant shipping, but did not intervene other than to support the Union's "Hostile Interference" accusation, until Tellurian ships were fired on and refused resupply in 2665. That incident resulted in the detachment of two battle groups from the CNF (at the time, there was only one Central Nexus Fleet) to support Union forces at the Battle of Amadioha. The inadvertent damage to the klavangi r'ill ship resulted in the Federation withdrawing its forces.
The Federation Navy had been slowly expanding throughout the 27th Century, and the building of Karetaki Roads in 2662 marked its 200th established facility. Throughout that century the Navy participated in a number of anti-piracy actions, convoy protection missions, assistance to the Intercolonial Health Council in enforcing quarantines and assisting the Mercy Ship program, and intervening in a few burgeoning conflicts between member worlds and other parties.
By 2681, when the "Manhome Liberation Fleet" descended on the Sol.Tellus system, the Federation Navy was widely dispersed, with nearly 210 facilities and bases. Beginning in 2630, the Navy had begun recruiting non-human beings, starting with Klavangi, and slowly adding Strill and Emyrilli, at all service levels, initially in small numbers, and against some Humans First sentiment.
The heroic actions of Admiral D'rinl im-Tasgi Yndrin in the Battle of Tellus during the War of Manhome Liberation aka "Orion Wars" changed sentiment toward non-human beings considerably, as well as provoking a general expansion of the Federation Navy. The expansion of the Naval Intelligence Command resulted in the building of Ajiit Nar Station and the near-doubling of the Navy's capital ship assets in the face of growing astropolitical instability, a decision that was vindicated when the The Hegemony of Vega took Melephar, beginning the current war.
