Heir of Merlin
The Heir of Merlin is a magic user who has responsibility for guarding the entrance to the Nexus of All Realities. The blood of the heir has the ability to open the doorway to Otherworld without performing the complex rituals normally required.
They also act as ambassador for the United Kingdom to the courts of Otherworld, particularly the Starlight Citadel.
Since the 15th Century, the role has been given to the current Master of the London Sanctum. Despite this, the Masters of the Mystic Arts are not considered to have any authority in matters relating Otherworld and the Nexus.
Qualifications
It is believed that if a person who did not consider themselves to be British attempted to assume the mantle, the staff would not allow them to pick it up, although there are no records of this ever having been tested.
