The New Horizons was the first true exploration into space with the goal of habitation. Though the loss of life was ultimately tragic, it inspired pioneers to spread out into the stars for decades to come. It is still referenced at the first turning point for galactic colonization.

FoundingIn light of the first failed attempt at interplanetary exploration by corporate entities, the UN and EU successfully landed their first colonization team on Mars. This laid the framework for a new organization that would serve as the interplanetary legislative body of Earth. The Allied Terran Systems was created as a way to manage the interplanetary needs of Mars and Earth but expanded as Humanity did to encompass a vast swath of the galaxy.

Evidence indicates that a major cataclismic weapon was used or tested within the system that resulted in the planet's destruction and the Utopia within the planet's surface jumpstarted the formation of a black hole. The crew of the Iridium Dawn risked their lives to safe 50 refugees from Nibian 3 before the planet was consumed by the rapidly growing black hole.
