Faldihr (FALL-deer)
Faldihr is the capital of Garzet. Situated across the three peaks of the Kamter Tips, Faldihr is known to some as the City in the Clouds. Its mining operations extend deep into the Tips, and it is the only city in Garzet to mine some lithid crystals.
A single path winds up the mountain, eventually branching into three that each lead to a different peak. Though they are well-maintained, they can be steep, and narrow enough that in some places only a single cart can pass at a time. You might think this inconvenient for a city reliant on food produced by the valley at its base, but such steep and narrow areas are strategically placed to halt approaching armies. The majority of the roads are wide, well-paved, and comfortably sloped.
When you reach the split in the path - where the dirt road turns into three cobblestone ones - you must make a decision as to which peak you intend to travel to. But worry not: the peaks are connected, and each can be accessed from the others. You can see this connection from the valley below: stone walkways crisscrossing through the skies.
Let's assume you take the middle path, leading up to the tallest of the three peaks. The guards at the gate will stop you if you are not a dwarf, but the questioning will not last long. Soon you will be in the central city, able to take in its magnificent stone architecture. Continue straight along Serpent's Way to reach the castle complex, where the Council of Five and their families reside most of the year. The guards will not let you past the inner wall without papers, but you can admire from afar. Also along the main street you'll find The Lucky Goblin, the large market square, and several inns and restaurants.
You'll notice on every house and business a rainwater collection system. Faldihr is too high up to make use of wells, and no rivers run from its peaks. Citizens are expected to manage their own water use - only in times of drought does the city step in. Fortunately, it rains often here.
Turn left down Drifter's Lane to walk one of the floating walkways to the lowest of the Kemtar Tips. Artisans and craftsmen line the street, making it seem as though you are walking through any other part of the city. Even for those afraid of heights, it is quite a comfortable experience. Here you'll find most lower-income housing, as well as the entrance to the mines.
If instead you turn right at the market square onto Gliding Street, you'll walk a similar path of shops and artisans, though perhaps catering to a more well-to-do audience. On this peak there are more upper-class homes, as well as some entertainment and the University of Garzet's main campus.
