Holy House of Rolar

The Holy House of Rolar is located on the Wall Road just south of the Great Gate. The House is 60’ across, with the peak of the thatched roof reaching 30’ high. It is built in the traditional Druidic style of holy house, with a tall thatched roof, one large door and no windows. Inside the main room of the House are three large wooden statues beautifully carved into the images of Dagdo Mar, Ano Mar and Lug. Around the perimeter of the building are numerous walled rooms, some of which house the priests, some are storerooms, some are guest quarters, and one is a stone kitchen (the only room inside the House that has a ceiling) with a stone fireplace and chimney. The interior is lit by several large silver oil lanterns with ornate glass globes to protect the thatch. It is a remarkably well-lit and bright space.   The House is headed by the High Priest  Arlo Goodland, a Halfling in his 70s, two other priests and three acolytes. Guests are always welcome at the Holy House, and a meal is always provided (if needed).

Purpose / Function

A place to formally worship the Druidic gods, to find physical and spiritual healing, and a place to gain counsel and insight when needed.

Design

The grounds are a broad flat lawn surrounded by a row of oak, hickory and yew thickly interspersed with sloe and holy to create a thick and very thorny hedge wall.  This wall is gated at the road, and a broad path leads to the Holy House.  There are two stone hearths used only when people are camping on the lawn.

Entries

The doors to the House are thick oak doors, richly carved and polished to a dark shine.  Faces, designs and symbols are carved into the door in intricate patterns.  Both doors can be barred from the top and bottom, and when secured provide a strong, secure barrier.

Sensory & Appearance

The open area inside the House is tall and open to the roof.  Around the perimeter of the building are several rooms all with lathe and plaster walls.  Great glazed lanterns light the room with warm light.  Incense and herbs are almost constantly burning at the feet of the three great wooden statues surrounding the central ceiling pier.    These statues stand 18' to 20' high, and represent Dagdo Mar, Ano Mar and Lug respectively.
