Thad Duclos
Thad Duclos is the owner of a large ship that was specially designed and built to allow the hunting and harvesting of Giant Kraken in the Eastern Sea. This is one of the most dangerous endeavors anyone can undertake, as the kraken are apex predators of amazing strength and cunning. Thad's father, grandfather and great-grandfather have all died while pursuing these incredibly dangerous but insanely valuable creatures.
Thad is also the next-to-last living descendent of Richard Duclos, Count of Aramor and the grandfather of the current Countess of Aramor, Roslyn Duclos. As Roslyn is unwed and has no children and has just entered her 64th year of life, she has secretly written a will leaving all her vast fortune, her lands, estates and her title to the County of Aramor to Thad. Should the Countess die without decalring another heir, Thad will inherit millions of urcs and the entire County of Aramor.

Personal history
Thad is a third-generation hunter of Giant Kraken, one of the most dangerous creatures known. His great-grandfather Remy Duclos first designed and built a style of ship that allowed for the hunting and harvesting of the creatures. As the kraken are incredibly valuable when harvested (nearly every part of the creature has great value), and as there are so few ships or men willing or able to hunt the creatures, Thad and his family have a reputation as high adventurers. In reality, they are a cadet-branch of an ancient noble family of great welath and influence and the kraken-hunting business is all that is keeping them fed right now.
Thad's father, grandfather and great-grandfather were all killed while hunting krakens, and Thad knows just how dangerous the job is.
