Rylar of Noordcross, born in 279RE, is the ruling monarch of the narrow and strategically significant region of Noordcross in the north eastern part of Kingdom of Theron . Situated as a vital conduit for trade routes connecting the Karidan Peninsula and the rest of Theron, Noordcross holds a pivotal position in the kingdom's commerce and security.
Ascending to power in 297RE following the death of his father, Rylar demonstrated exceptional political acumen and skillfully navigated the turbulent landscape of Theron's politics. In the wake of King Brennus's demise in 325RE, a popular uprising swept through his realm. With calculated decisiveness, Rylar quelled the revolt and solidified his authority, ultimately proclaiming himself the King of Noordcross—a title that had never existed before, thus tenuously asserting his claim to it.
While initially an ally of King Kurgan in the struggle against the Namorian Republic incursion, Rylar's interests and ambitions diverged in 342RE when Kurgan launched an assault on Old Harran, the capital of Theron under Namorian control. Seizing the opportunity to safeguard his domain, Rylar betrayed his former ally, strategically distancing himself from the conflict in West Theron. Though no official non-aggression pact was formed, his calculated restraint and geographical separation rendered him a lesser concern for the embattled territories.
Rylar's leadership is marked by shrewdness and caution, avoiding commitments to conflicts unless victory is virtually assured. Noordcross faces sporadic incursions from disorganized mountain tribes to the east, necessitating its defenses. Maintaining a favorable relationship with the Karidan people to the north, Rylar grants passage to their questing Karidan Knights through his lands. In return, the Karidans provide protection against the various beasts and marauders originating from the perilous eastern mountains.
