King Gimbeltrex

(a.k.a. The Pirate King)

Gimbletrex is the appointed 'King' of The Free Goblins of Ordash and Goldack.   Born on Orgoth into a clan of mountain goblins, living in an intricate network of caves, his life was changed irrevocably when he and his entire clan were attacked by the warband of Warchief Drebok. Seeing Goblins as base, inferior and only existing to serve their orcish superiors - Gimbletrex along with his clan were enslaved and forced to participate in Invasion of Warchief Drebok  Although initially unwillingly taking part in the invasion, he grew more and more angry as he witnessed his people killed in their thousands. His role was as a 'sapper', a corps of goblins tasked with taking down the tough dwarven walls with explosives - often in suicide attacks at the expense of their own lives. Through this role, Gimbletrex developed a knowledge of rudimentary and improvised explosives, and built up his own store from taken Dwarven cities.   Along with Urkol Gorthraz, a half-orc berserker, he orchestrated an uprising of the slave soldiers. This uprising was instrumental in the toppling the invasion and saving the The Kingdom of Korosk.     After the war was won, Gimbletrex and Urkol were awarded the island of Ordash in gratitude by King Volshek Korosk  Gimbletrex headed to the south of the island to establish a settlement by the sea in a natural bay formed in the island. The settlement over the next six years boomed and became the thriving city of Goldack. Revered as a hero and saviour of the goblins, Gimbletrex was awarded the title of 'King', although in reality he refuses any official power - valuing freedom and liberty above all else. His pride and joy is his ship, Drebok's Pride, a huge Galley sitting in the port city.

Personal history

Gimbletrex was a mid-ranking member of his mountain goblin tribe on Orgoth. Never particularly ambitious, as he knew himself to be neither the strongest nor the wisest of the clan, those honours going to the revered Chief Krezgezol and the highly respected Shaman Mondalvarvarix. He was content with his role, as a ranger tasked with patrolling and scouting the caves, scoping out items of interest as well as threats to the health of the clan.   He was always interested in how things worked, and developed a healthy fascination with creating things - from makshift tools and weapons to potions and poisions - something which endeared him to the other members of the tribe, and in particular the shaman who he helped to no end. Overall, he was thought very well of.   The day that Warchief Drebok came, Gimbletrex was off duty - at home creating some tools for the miners who had started to extract ore from the walls of their home. He heard the warchief bellowing commands at the mouth of their cave and his message was clear - join the warband willingly, or be brought into the fold by force. He made it to the commotion as Krezgezol challenged the warchief to a duel, and watched as the Chief fought bravely, nimbly dodging Drebok's brutal strikes and managing to inflict some minor wounds with his glaive. Eventually, however, a mistimed lunge allowed the orc to grab him by the neck, throw him to the ground, and behead him in front of his clan.   In horror, the goblins attacked but were quickly over-run by the warband. As Gimbletrex was beaten down and dragged from the cave, he looked back at his home for the last time. He watched as orcs rushed his friend, the clan shaman, Mondalvarvarix, who had scorched the earth around him, destroying orcs in waves. As his home disappeared from him, Gimbletrex watched his friend collapse the cave, cutting off a huge proportion of orcs from their warchief.   This was one of the most costly raids of Drebok's pre-invasion career, and perhaps it was this that made him force Gimbletrex and several of the other goblins in his tribe into the role of Sappers, a particularly brutal task - building and wiring explosive weapons to destroy dwarven settlements. Under threat of his own death, as well as the deaths of the young and infirm prisoners of his own tribe, Gimbletrex grudgingly agreed.    What happened next was chronicled as the Invasion of Warchief Drebok, a campaign streching over two years which nearly brought the The Kingdom of Korosk to it's knees. Gimbletrex, through the first battles of the campaign, was successful as a sapper, and his explosives crushed many dwarven walls in front of the warband.  Thinking of home, of Krezgezol and of Mondalvarvarix, and of his people, he grew angrier and angrier. He slipped from the camp nightly, along with his close friend and confidant Slazik, and the two conspired to rebel against the warchief. On one of their nightly sojourns, they met Urkol Gorthraz, a half-orc berserker who had rebellion on his mind as well.   They brought more and more into the fold, and planned an uprising to begin on the day of the final assault on Koyevo. Slazik infiltrated the city and warned the defenders of the plan, as Gimbletrex and his sappers laid explosives on the road to the cities front gate to sever the vanguard from the main force. Urkol planned to set up his suicide squad berserkers in ambush outside the city gates to assault the warchief's vanguard - now isolated.   The plan worked, and turned the tides against the warchief. His greatest asset, the Warlock Shura Shum was also presumably killed in the battle - Gimbletrex recognised demonic magics (taught to him by Mondalvarvarix) and correctly surmised that he was opening a portal to The Abyss, something that would potentially spell the end of the material plane. A group of ten operatives confronted him in the mountain overlooking Koyevo. Neither the warlock nor any of the group who moved against him were seen again.    Over the next months, the tides turned, and the coalition of freed orcs, half-orcs and goblins, as well as rallied Dwarves, pushed back the invaders to Iskor, where a final battle resulted in swift victory against the warchief. As he fled to his ship, planning to return to Orgoth and regroup, Gimblerex was waiting in his quarters, and Slazik had stowed away on the ship with a group of his spies. Gimbletrex easily killed the wounded and fleeing Warchief, and brought his head back to Korosk. Slazik and his rogues easily dispatched the remaining orcs on the ship, thus ending the invasion.   After the war, the coalition were awarded Ordash. Gimbletrex elected to travel to the south of the lush jungle island, and established Goldack. His ambition was for the city to be a safe haven to all, one that was light on rules and regulations, championing freedom and liberty above all else. The city is now known worldwide for this, and is loved by many. Gimbletrex was awarded the title of 'King', although truly this was to acknowledge his heroic status more than anything else - the 'king' himself abhors most forms of authority.

Education

Gimbletrex in his early days learned the caves he called home like the back of his hand. He learned how to make tools, and how to utilise the sparce herbs and plants in various poisons and potions. His primary job was as a scout and ranger, so he could handle himself in a fight - his chosen weapons being a bow and arrow, and paired daggers. He would always, however, prefer to utilise stealth and guerilla warfare rather than an out and out battle.    During his time as a sapper for the warchief, he built a strong knowledge of explosives, something he utilised against Drebok during his downfall.    Finally, since establishment of his so-called 'Pirate City', Gimbletrex has become an accomplished and capable sailor, captaining his beloved Drebok's Pride.

Accomplishments & Achievements

The pride of Gimbletrexs' life has been establishment of a thriving goblin community on Ordash, and he is most proud of the cities reputation as a haven for arts and freedom. His friend and confidant, Slazik, has set up a criminal empire in the city, and rumour has it that Gimbletrex is more than a little bit proud of that too - given the frustration that he inspires in the other races of Timor.

Mental Trauma

Only those close to Gimbletrex know the mental toll that the loss of his home had on him. Many say that he dreams about his friend, Shaman Mondalvarvarix, dying in the collapsed caves of his home, alone and at the mercy of the orcish invaders. He supposedly thinks often of the lost caves of his people, and the artifacts therein. When the shaman collapsed the caves - he imprisoned many of the invaders with him. Gimbletrex often ruminates on their fate.

Intellectual Characteristics

Although not particularly gifted academically, the goblin is known for being cunning and wiley. He has a curious mind and is a fast learner. He learned of shamanistic tradition from Mondalvarvarix, something he has kept with him through his life.
