The Free Goblins of Ordash
The Free Goblins are the collective term for the Goblin society which has survived and thrived on the island of Ordash between Alvas and Bandoor.
The island was gifted by the Dwarves to the newly freed slave goblins, orcs and half-orcs of the warband of Warchief Drebok, after the Invasion of Warchief Drebok as a thank you for their uprising and help in destroying the invading army.
Detesting any form of absolute rule given the tyranny that they experienced under Warchief Drebok, they do not have a definite leader. They do have, however, King Gimbeltrex who is the closest thing. Gimbeltrex was the head of the Goblin arm of the resistance against the warchief, leading brutal and devastating guerilla attacks against their enemies. While not by any means the best fighter, he is a prodigal tactician and predictor of enemy movements, making him highly effective in their campaign. On their establishment of Goldack, the goblins gave him the honorary title of King.
Although this confers no actual authority in real terms, he is deeply respected and adored by his subjects, such that his will is usually done (despite this not being a rule). Goblin law is made by the heads of the various factions of their society, Gimbletrex being one of these.
Unofficially, Slazik the Dog and Alfons the Noble carry a huge amount of influence in the city. They are the leaders of two opposing crime syndicates, and their operatives are numerous throughout the city holding a wide spread of influence.
The Goblins have a deep and close friendship with the orcs and half orcs of their island, as well as the Dwarves of Korosk, given their shared past. King Volshek Korosk has said that he holds Ordash and its people in as high a regard as the Koroski, and will protect them with his life.
Structure
The heads of the different sectors of goblin society generally confer on matters of importance for the people as a whole, and make the loose guidlelines which pass for laws on the island.
Culture
Goblins value freedom, peace and revelry above all else, given their turbulent history. They will, if necessary, fight ferociously for their freedom and will resist any attempts to curtail it within their own society.
Goldack is a massive city, and a hive of activity at all times, bustling and buzzing with people from all races, societies and cultures at all times. The arts and music thrive in its huge districts which seem to be ever expanding. Chefs cook with exotic meats and spices, and brewers churn out quality alcohol in huge quantities. Goblin culture can be summed up in revelry and the full enjoyment of life.
Given its tactical positioning, lax trade regulations, and the ease of bribery within it's confines, Goldack has become something of a hub for piracy, and has a thriving community of brigands who shelter there. It is often disparagingly referred to as a 'The Pirate City' by members of the other cities, particularly the elves.
History
Ordash was gifted by the Dwarves to the newly freed slave goblins, orcs and half-orcs of the warband of Warchief Drebok, after the Invasion of Warchief Drebok as a thank you for their uprising and help in destroying the invading army.
The orcs and half-orcs, generally speaking, elected to return to their tribal lives, spreading out across the island and forming strongholds in their individual tribes, led by their spiritual leader Chief Urkol Gorthraz.
The Goblins, however, elected to propel themselves into the world, and establish a city on the southern coast of the island, on the site of an old dwarven ruin. They became active in both legal and illegal trade, and made themselves competitive around the ports of the world by undercutting taxes and tariffs on goods traded in the port. It is no secret that the goblins aren't anywhere near as judicious in their implementation of law as the other races of the world, seeing laws more like guidelines which can be bent and broken when deemed necessary or convenient. This makes the goblin port popular among traders and merchants the world over, but also dangerous.
The port is young, but has made itself exceptionally important in world politics.
Military
There is no official military of Goldack, although the port is always bustling with people who would take up arms to defend it in an instant - probably several thousand of them - as the port is a bastion of freedom, joy and revelry throughout the world.
It is also known, that due to the enormous community of pirate crews who would also raise up arms in an instant to defend Goldack, and they would likely make the largest fleet in the world if they were to do this. What they lack in central control and admiralty, they gain in pirate captains who are adept at naval warfare and sailing in difficult conditions.
Finally, it is known that Gimbletrex keeps a private guard of his own, which many believe to be quite numerous.
Foreign Relations
As mentioned, the Goblins share a close relationship with the half-orcs and orcs who share the island. Many, including King Gimbeltrex, were comrades with them during the uprising against Warchief Drebok. Similarly, they have a close relationship with The Kingdom of Korosk, again fighting alongside them in the uprising.
Their relationship with The Sampalan Kingdom and The Western Peninsula as a whole is deeply sour on the other hand, mainly for two reasons:
Firstly, greenskins are deeply reviled on the peninsula, as the orcs native to that area have been, particularly recently, leading devastating ambushes on the Berstock Trees. Unfortunately, many people find greenskins to be one and the same across Timor, so their anger towards their own enemies extends to the same race across the sea.
Secondly, illegal trade of Bark and Sap is extremely common in Goldack, and despite numerous petitions by the royal family of The Sampalan Kingdom, the goblins of Goldack refuse outright to extradite illegal smugglers back to the peninsula, or to crack down on it's trade in the city. The royal family finds this particularly insulting, as the goblins acknowledge that the trade exists but refuse to do anything about it. This has even, on occasion, led to threats of invasion, most of which the Goblins have shrugged off - they know that their military power is strong, and the the dwarves would support them. Loss of dwarven business would be devastating to the Sampalan Kingdom, and militarily they are no match.
