Crownways

The Crownways are a series of roads crisscrossing Aldorath, linking the various capitals and major cities of the former Seven Kingdoms. They were initially built following the First Witching War  , primarily by the combined industry of the Dwarves of Kurdenheim, the Summerlings or Summerlund, and the Goblinoids or Gristamere. They consisted of broad roads, with forest and brush cut back for some distance to dissuade robbers. At approximately one day's travel lengths along the roads, inns, public houses, or wells and lesser shelters were built to accommodate travelers.   Although they were maintained for centuries, after the betrayal of Gristamere in the Second Witching War , the Crownways were less well kept, with many falling into complete disuse, or even purposefully destroyed to prevent the easy movement of armies over them. Still, their remnants are often used by travelers and merchants, and many of the old road inns remain in business.   The two greatest Crownways were the east-west road that traversed from Estwald through Harderyn to Road's End, and the north-south road that began in Sigurth's Climb, passed Kuhrzhakkos, traveled through Harderyn, and headed south to Gwyllan's Watch.
