Overview
Baraton was less militaristic as his father before him. He was a Humble, Honest but Ambitious ruler, a Legendary Blademaster and a Drunkard. He was the first in the long line of Blakfort rulers to participate in the tradition of "Oathmen", where the vassals of the newly crowned king swear loyalty to their new lord. He became very close allies with his Brican relatives and they communicated quite often. He followed in his father's footsteps and became a devout follower of the Order. He convinced the Order to ordain his family, which ensured that their claim for the throne of Blakfort was eternal.Early Reign
Even though he wasn't a warmonger, he pressed the claim of his brother, who was his vassal and ruled the lands conquered by their father in the Northeast. The kingdom declared war on a small Kaolite duke. Seeing the attack as a threat to their religious practices, they called their neighbours to help, who came to their aid. Baraton suddenly found himself outnumbered and called upon his family members for aid as well. Their combined armies could finally bring an end to the war and take the fortress of Kingshill in 920.Difficulties
Shortly after, in 921 he declared war on the Krovian Kingdom to press a claim on their territory. Unbeknownst to him however, the Krovian king made an alliance with the ruler of the seafarers of Scovony. The Scovonians far outnumbered the Blakfort army and the situation soon turned dire. After a number of defeats, Baraton was forced to surrender in 923, losing his claim on the disputed territory in the process. A few years passed in peace, until Baraton discovered a secret Kaolite library in a hidden room under the Austium castle. It was full of Kaolite tomes, which were destroyed shortly after. This was later called the Kaolite Burning as some people who protested against the decision were burned alongside the books.Opportunities
While Baraton saw his fair share of war and he was an accomplished fighter himself, he saw himself as a diplomat first and foremost. He made many friends among the neighbouring kingdoms and managed to forge an alliance with the king of Atacodia in 932, like his father before him. In 935, the Scovonian king died under mysterious circumstances ending their alliance with the Krovian Kingdom. Baraton seized the opportunity to conquer some of their territory for his brother. Without the aid of the Scovonian army, the Krovians stood no chance and started loosing their castles one by one. While the war raged on, the duke of Avadell started his own war against the heretics to their Northeast. The war was easy and quite a bit of land was added to the Kingdom as a result.
End of his reign
As he felt his health quickly deteriorating, he commissioned an established chronicler to start working on a family history that would tell the tale of the Blakfort dynasty from Kirk the Patriarch. He succumbed to old age a few months later.Legacy
