The Roman Army
The Roman Army has historically been the best and most successful fighting force in the known world. The army is large, well trained, and well equipped, and is commanded by some of the greatest leaders in the world. It is also by far the largest army among the humanoids -- several times as large as any other force. At full strength, the Army has 28 (or in Roman numerals, XXVIII) Legions of 5,500 soldiers, totaling 154,000 men. Recently, a number of Legions have been lost, and the Empire is still attempting to replace those casualties. At the time of the campaign start, there are only XXI (21) Legions remaining in the army.
