No trick no treat
Okay. It seems like the "spooky season" is a big event in several countries around the world. I'd never celebrate it, nor do I understand why it is so important for so many people. But I won't complain about the scary movies and the creepy stories haunting media this time of year.
Usually I join one of the writing events of the season, but this time I'll invite you to visit a town where Halloween is not a thing. While they have heard about it, most of them are not even curious. Nobody warned you on time, and now you are out there in a surprisingly warm night, just you, and a starry night. Your costume feels a bit silly, but the worst part is the lack of candy.
Disappointed, you consider your options. Go back to your lodgings doesn't sound appealing, since there is no cable or wi-fi; this town doesn't have any fancy hotels and that place is... well.
Maybe you should play the meanest trick you can think of? You aren't prepared for that, but you could shatter the windows of the beautiful house where an old lady called you a devil or something like that. That would be fun.
The howl of a coyote (okay, maybe it was just a dog) makes the quiet streets a bit scary and for a second you think you should go back. Then you remember that this is supposed to be a scary night. Maybe you can investigate the origin of that howl, just in case is a werewolf or a missing pet.
What should yo do, then?
This short story with different paths for you to choose, was inspired by the prompts of Spooktober 2022.
