Eldarr Territories of Southern Krahnis

The Eldaar Territories is a loosely defined run of land in which most of the settlements have adopted Eldarrian Contract Law. This set of local and regional laws provides villages and towns independence that can only be traded for protection to nearby city-states. Eldaar, himself, has visited cities in the region to bless or damn their actions under his laws. The territories have limited resources with towns and villages rarely closer than a day’s travel between them. This leads to villages that take full advantage of local resources but make the region less attractive to the megalomania of empire building.   Avail, Beetalla, Fajidah, Gilby, Meddle, Meyzon, Muur, Rifthalen, Rykon, and Sumption are the major city-states of Eldarr Law in the territories. Most towns and villages follow Eldarr’s Laws, even if they do not formally elect Viceroy Lords, Regents, or Deputies. Most of the laws follow common sense and communally accepted freedoms of liberty.   Recent History: Meddle has tried to expand to greatness repeatedly, failing through several governments of aristocracies, military rule, by councils, and now Eldarr Law. And throughout the changes, Meddle has remained synonymous with corruption. The multiple incomplete walls lying in broken rings around the city are a testament to the multiple failed governments and constantly switching of powers. Rifthalen has grown isolationist as Baschiun followers have become influential. The Dwarven Ba Da Ru Unda Mountains have maintained their distance from everyone in the region. The village of Halt at the base of the mountain group is the only way they will trade. Gnomian famas (Gnomian farmland that winds around terrain, rather than flat fields) surround Halt as part of their traditional trade relationship with dwarves. Neither of them chooses Eldarr Law. Down the mountain from Ogre Hill Pass some orc settlements have peacefully thrived in the last hundred years. The Ogres have stuck to their hunting grounds for most years. A remote village of goblins has taken up in an open sky crevasse. They have made a name for themselves at Downgobbs with the clay products they build, including triangular-shaped firkins. Nog Pakmas has grown to a considerable size. The Nagpa and the Ancient Ghyenie Rites for the Dead are practiced there. Many do not follow the Ghyenie Rites, but they have gained acceptance in Rifthalen, Rabbiton, and Sumption.   Ancient History: West of Ahnodin runs a road that makes a loop through some villages at the foot of the mountains. But it has one direct westward track from sleepy little Ahnodin to Ladderfell, the former canyon stronghold and entrance up to the grand High Fey Basin. A millennium ago, this led to a valley high above, winding deep in between crowning peaks of the Cataclysmites. Rich with wildlife and fertile lands, it held a great deal of magical and worldly wealth and power. Massive waterfalls descended from the cliffs providing deep rivers for this region and winding through the lower steppes to the sea far southeast. The High Fey Basin was very restrictive of how many commoners would be allowed in. It was a different world up there. But over five centuries ago it all vanished beneath a glacier of snow and ice. The tales say that gray clouds gathered there with unrelenting snow and colds for months. None got out alive, with tales of people and animals frozen like statues and underground strongholds becoming mass tombs of the starving and sick. As ice filled the valley, the waterfalls dried up and deep rivers in the territories ran low becoming winding river canyons. In the last hundred years, the water levels have risen swallowing low docks and even villages (Mudgrave) unlucky enough to have settled in an old mud basin. A few of the waterfalls are flowing again hinting that life may return one day to the basin.
