Erebus

Erebus, sometimes called Gloomfell or the Domain of Shadows, can be conceived of as being "sideways" from the Firmament of reality, much like its counterpart Faerie. Like Faerie it inverts the Firmament in shape and form, with its own spheres and continents and realms within it but instead of an inward-facing world, it faces outwards. It is a place attuned to entropy, decay and nightmares, but also tied to the future and vision. Every possibility and decision made on the Terrestrial Plane "casts its shadow" on Erebus, transforming it constantly and making every trip an unfamiliar one. In the same way Faerie reflects the world of yesterday, Erebus resembles a reality yet to come, and perhaps should never be. Churning biomechanical machinery, aberrant shapes, and crackling energy help give a sense of power to this lightless domain.   While there are kindred who call Erebus their home (the fetchlings are but one example, as are the cruel dero and the fiendish kytons), its association with negative energy means life rarely takes hold here. Instead, it is most associated as a realm of the Un-Dead, whom flourish within it, as well as aberrations, who are spawned from its recesses. The alghollthu in particular claimed rulership over this plane until very recently, and claim that they are the end of all things, the end of evolution and history. Shadowcasters learn their form of magic by attuning themselves to the Domain of Shadows. Despite all this, Erebus is not natively Evil, though the Pit does pierce through it, and the waters of the Infinite Abyss wash on the shores of Erebus's continents. This connection, of course, goes both ways.   Like Faerie, Erebus can be accessed physically by those who know the way, usually through passages into the Underworld of Chur, which Erebus shares with Faerie a deep resonance with. There is no sky in Erebus, only impossibly large cavern ceilings. Thresholds into Erebus are marked by its ethereal tendrils, which look like strange biomechanical filaments and impossibly black circuitry. The goddess Ka-Ata-Raya claims her Throne here, ruling over the Principle of Winter, and the Plane of Entropy is an eldritch extension of its principles onto infinity.
