Mountain Troll

Mountain trolls are not intrinsically malevolent, and they do not always attack outsiders on sight, despite their ugly appearance, lack of charm, and proclivity for violence. A mountain troll prefers to withdraw and observe before attacking, only attacking if intruders make it plain that they intend to harm it or its allies, or if the newcomers appear to be intruding on the troll's territory rather than passing through. When furious, a mountain troll becomes a ruthless foe, summoning its innate strength and elemental allies to bury its foes in stone or spread their guts throughout the slopes.   Mountain trolls prefer to live in small ravines or shallow caves with views of the surrounding area. They knuckle-walk like a gorilla at times, but when enraged, they rear up to about 18 feet tall.   Mountain trolls regard lesser trolls as sadists, however they do feel a sense of almost familial obligation toward them. Lesser trolls frequently take advantage of mountain trolls' generosity, but when sheltering in their houses, they make sure to follow their larger cousins' regulations. Mountain trolls have even been known to assist or advise explorers if they are treated with respect.
