Snow Troll
A snow troll is a small, broad troll who prefers to live in the cold. Snow trolls are similar to regular trolls, except their skin is paler and their bodies are coated in white fur. Tatty fur and hair cover its feet and lower arms, allowing it to travel through and mix in with frigid environment such as snow and boulders.
They are skilled climbers, able to scale glaciers, ice floes, and icy summits with their powerful claws. Snow trolls, unlike other trolls, are ruthless predators who are also patient. They create and maintain territories that cover hundreds of square miles. Snow trolls hunt polar bears and people for food. White dragons can opt to hunt snow trolls, therefore they aren't necessarily the predators in icy situations. These trolls' natural opponents are ice trolls, with whom they struggle constantly over arctic territory.
These arctic trolls only use their clawed hands to attack and are capable of fighting two opponents at once. They have regeneration abilities, as do all trolls, but they are also extremely resistant to cold attacks, and are sometimes completely immune to them. They are, however, as are most trolls, extremely vulnerable to fire (excluding the fire troll).
Snow trolls are fearless fighters who will fight to the death. They frequently attack small settlements alone, scaring the populace, but prefer to stage attacks in caves. Trolls like these can detect even minute changes in the surface tension of the snow around their lairs. They use this to detect sound vibrations from potential prey and ambush them when the chance arises.
Civilization and Culture
Courtship Ideals
Snow trolls like to live alone and only leave their domain once every three years during mating season. Hundreds of snow trolls travel from all over the world to attend the triennial midwinter-darkness meeting, where mating takes place. Males and females then go their separate ways, knowing they are more than capable of surviving on their own. The females rear their young until they are healthy enough to live on their own, which normally takes about a year. During their growing period, young snow trolls must eat twice as much as adults.
Major Language Groups and Dialects
They have their own high-pitched, sing-song language, although most speak some Common. This language contains twenty terms for "prey" due to their hunting culture.
