Scrag

A scrag is a gilled version of a common troll who lives in the sea. A scrag is located in a huge body of water since it requires a lot of space to hunt. A scrag's forelimbs are shorter and weaker than other trolls, and their colour ranges from blue-green to olive. The freshwater scrag is smaller than a conventional troll, with lighter scales and weaker claws, but its expanded lower jaw is adorned with numerous small, razor-sharp fangs. Saltwater scrags can be found in seas and oceans, and they're at least as big as a troll. A saltwater scrag's skin is thick and extensively scaled, and some of them are smart enough to outfit themselves with armor made of shells, sharkskin, or other similar materials. The forelimbs of a saltwater scrag are shorter and weaker than those of a normal troll, but it has a massive maw and numerous fangs. A scrag, like a troll, regenerates when immersed in water of its natural element. Saltwater scrags, on the other hand, are unaffected by breathing fresh, salt, or mixed water.   Scrags don't use tools or weapons, preferring to live a basic, savage existence. When they attack, they lash out with their claws at anything that moves, biting anything that gets close enough. When the land-bound races attack seagoing vessels, they claw into the hull and climb over each other to board and wipe out the crew.   Scrags can only renew in water, which means freshwater scrags must be in freshwater and saltwater scrags must be in saltwater. Acid and fire, like their land-based counterparts, are the only things that can truly harm them—two compounds that are considerably harder to come by underwater. Locathah, on the other hand, discovered that saltwater scrag flesh nourishes starcoral, a coral that grows ten times faster than ordinary corals, and that weapons created from it can be used to impede a scrag's regeneration. They'll dismember it and pack the wounds with small starcoral fragments. Even the brightness of a full moon makes saltwater scrags uncomfortable. As a result, they will only come close to the sea's surface at night.   Scrags are a matriarchal species. In exchange for her choice of mates, one female chieftain/Shaman will lead a pack or small tribe of scrags, using her shamanistic magic and somewhat heightened intelligence to find prey for her lessers. Three or four scrags, headed by their chieftain, will go out to find food for the rest of the tribe, however the chieftain will rarely join the attack.   Saltwater scrags tend to live between 300 and 600 feet beneath the surface of the sea.
