Karinga
Karinga was a rugged state which occupied the entirety of the Rock Plains of western Astagua . It was nestled between the western slopes of the Cairnbrow Mountains and the eastern cliffs of the Bronze Strait. Its population was entirely made up of tribes of Goliaths who had learned early to strike a balance and harmony with the land should they wish to subsist on it for long. Though their traditions have strong similarities to druidic circles, few of the Goliaths that lived there possessed any magical capacity.
Nomads No More
The Cairn, as they called themselves, were a proud, stalwart people who reserved judgement and trust to equal effect. Much of their pre-Astaguan history is kept amongst themselves, which their countrymen have attributed to the losses they suffered in Vescania's first invasion of Astagua in 758, 2E. Having traveled across the Bronze Strait, Vescania first thought to raze Highburg, the Human capitol of pre-unification Marka, through the mountains after secretly establishing a base of operations on the other side; the Cairn didn't take too kindly to the invasion. Despite Vescania's offer to various tribal leaders before the invasion, the consensus amongst the tribes was that anyone foolish enough to attack Highburg through the Cairnbrow Mountains would certainly be foolish enough to turn on them when the opportunity presented itself. While the Rock Plains weren't considered an appealing location by any of the other races the Cairn had encountered, they had come to respect their relationship with their land and knew it intimately. Despite being outnumbered and out-skilled, the Cairn held the Vescanian forces back long enough for a messenger to make it through the mountains to alert Marka of the Vescanian invasion. Marka responded with a large group of forces, which attacked from both land and sea, pinching the Vescanian forces and forcing a retreat. During their retreat, Vescanian forces took to razing as much of the Plains and killing as many of the Cairn as they could. The most devastating blow was when they ignited a forest in the south-eastern portion of the Rock Plains, where many of the Cairn combatants had sent their families to hide. The forest burned completely, killing thousands of Cairn women, children, and elderly. The original name of the forest has since been kept a secret amongst the Cairn; now, it is simply known as Ghoulwood. Since the end of the war against Vescania, the Cairn have isolated themselves. Against their wishes, however, they're far more dependent on their neighbors in Nivasa and Marka for trade goods and food than they were in the past. For some Cairn, this brings shame - they were once dependent on themselves and the Rock Plains, and they want to get back to that level of capability. For others, the times are simply changing - better to embrace it than resist. Of note is that while the Cairn were largely nomadic before the war, they've since settled down in villages that now dot the Rock Plains. They only place they seldom visit is Ghoulwood, and there isn't a village within 100 miles of it.History of Unified Council Delegates:
