Upper Essend
Demographics
The only people living in the factory district of Upper Essend are those who cannot afford to live anywhere else. They either sleep on the streets, or sleep in the factory where they are employed.
Government
In Upper Essend, factory owners rule the streets. Unscrupulous business owners make life a living hell for their employees, and can pay as much or as little as they want.
Defences
To keep the people, and more importantly -to the factory owners anyway- raw materials safe from criminals imprisoned in the Atlas Penitentiary, Upper Essend has a raised bridge connecting it to the airship. Additionally, there is a secured gate between Nordocks and Upper Essend to discourage thievery.
Industry & Trade
This is the industrial district, which produces manufactured goods, household items, engine parts, etc. The work pays a pittance, and many employees have to live on the streets.
Infrastructure
Upper Essend houses the factories, and some of those who live there. It also has a ridge to the Atlas Prison Ship.
Assets
There are large stores of extra Erythrine for the factories, but most of the large raw materials are kept in the warehouses of Nordock District.
History
The Northeast corner of Victoriam has always housed all of the factories, but it was originally connected to the tenements of Essend Main. Soon after the Sussee pipe explosion, the connection between Essend Main and Upper Essend began to crumble as well. Residents could no longer afford to cross the Glorian Bridge, so many chose to remain in Upper Essend at night as well as during the day.
Architecture
Upper Essend is incredibly utilitarian, and made of a grid of small alleyways between the factories. The district is very grey and dismal overall, however, some of the street urchins forced to live there will paint the sides of factories with bright colors, in an effort to cheer the residents.
