Wessend District

Demographics

Wessend is largely upper class or upper middle class. It has a large population of shopkeepers, teachers, students, and other jobs that don’t require hard labor. As with the rest of Victoriam, most of the population is of British or Irish nationality. Wessend makes up a large portion of the voting block, and as such the government wants to ensure that Wessend remains loyal to the crown by appeasing the population.

Defences

Wessend is in possession of a raised bridge due to the surplus of power to the district. It protects both the Wessend side and the lower Sussend side.

Industry & Trade

There are no major exports, however they take the raw crops from Sussend for the bakeries, groceries, and other shops in order to provide for the city.

Infrastructure

This district has the greatest amount of infrastructure, with a large plaza in the center of the district, three engine towers, and a stable bridge to the Nordock district.

Assets

As the most affluent district, most of Wessend has family heirlooms and small treasures, and some in the upper-middle class have taken to growing small gardens of food. There are some storage areas, but most storage takes place in Nordocks. Wessend, however, houses the Victoriam Bank, which gives it extra prestige in the eyes of the people.

History

Wessend has always been the hub of trade, riches, and culture. The Grand Square in the center of Wessend used to host a market, with traders hailing from all reaches of the Empire. In 1867, the trade market was abandoned, as airships stopped coming to the city. Wessend still thrived, powered by bankers, artists, teachers, and shopkeepers, but the loss of trade lends an air of despondency and barrenness to the district.

Architecture

Wessend boasts larger, Victorian style homes. Most homes have features such as bay windows, and turrets on a person’s house is indicative of wealth and prestige. Wessend also maintains a few large gothic churches. The Victoria Cathedral is one of the most beautiful buildings in the city.
