Creating Your Adventurer - Exol

The realms of the Fractured Vale are ripe with opportunity for the curious and foolheardy.

Barbarians

Barbarians embrace nature, taking pride in their primal instincts. They often need no particular call to adventure. The thrill of combat alone is enough for them. But there are those who seek purpose. Some will join military units for the three kingdoms, Kalawyn Sheylantiir and Diostrath. Some barbarians prefer the natural world. They dedicate their lives to the defense of the natural order. This can sometimes manifest in the form of disdain for their draconic oppressors. Others respect the dragons as part of the natural world and defend them with pride. The Burning Dawn once employed the services of loyal barbarians. While it is rumored to no longer exist today, there is some evidence to the contrary. The Talons of the Ivory Claw and military of Kalawyn began recruiting and training barbarians after the end of the last war.

Bards

All of the dragon leaders value the musical and performative services of humans. But none are so amused as Avin, the Guardian, who truly enjoys his interactions with lesser creatures. It was Avin who requested the creation of The Gentlemen. Currently working out of the city of Ehrydis, the Gentlemen have spread their performances throughout the Draconic Kingdoms and beyond. Particularly ambitious bards might attempt to join the Shadow of Decorum, a league of extraordinary thieves. While rare, the bard Elida Thistlehand managed to earn a seat in The Circle of Saffron.

Clerics

In Kalawyn, clerics are most often in service of Church of the Platinum Dragon. Dark aligned clerics might find themselves in service of Tiamat. Every major kingdom makes use of the services of Clerics. Clerics in Sheylantiir can worship any of the major gods, and even Avin, the Guardian. Some clerics are called to adventure by the threat of dark powers rising and growing in the shadows. Others are those dark powers...

Druids

A druid's journey most often begins when their lands are threatened. Many druids belong to the many branches in the Talons of the Ivory Claw. The splintered guild now practices a variety of different magic types. Some druids exist independently of the Claws, protecting their lands in the frontier. Many of these druids are monstrous races, but not all.

Fighters

Fighters are chameleons. Their skills are useful to most organizations throughout Exol. The Sable's Sojurn and the Blades of Syllane certainly have use for fighters. The various military units of the kingdoms pour their resources into recruiting young, prospective soldiers. In Diostrath, misguided souls may find their way to The Forefathers. For many, becoming a knight of any order is a source of great pride (such as the Shields of Reliance or the Platinum Templars).

Monks

Monks seek to master their emotions, achieving peak physical and mental performance. Many join monasteries to work on their techniques. The Fellowship of the Dragon's Embrace is one such guild. They seek to maintain peace and neutrality among the Draconic Kingdoms. Some train in much more secluded and distant monasteries. These can be found in the independent territories to the north, as well as the islands around Exol.

Paladins

Ask any aspiring Sheylantiir paladin who they wish to serve, and the answer will undoubtedly be the Shields of Reliance. The Shields are valiant protectors of good and vanquishers of evil. They are true knights, through and through. The Shields are sometimes assigned as protectors of particular noble figures. Others seek to protect the weak, serving wherever they are needed. Others might wish to become Praetorian Guards.

Rogues

It is not uncommon for rogues to work solo. But some organizations pay well for their services. The Sable's Sojurn has been known to train their own rogues through secretive and hidden schools. Ambitious rogues might aspire to join the Shadow of Decorum, a legendary league of master thieves. Those of the more swashbuckling variety might find themselves working aboard a ship as a hired sword. The stealthiest of rogues may find themselves in the service of the Blades of Syllane or their rivals, the Velinov.

Rangers

Rangers, like Druids, patrol the wilderness and respect nature. However, rangers are usually more physical and solitary. They are not often known to belong to clans, like the Claws. However, they are fierce protectors and warriors. The Drakewardens know this more than anyone. The Drakewardens, as well as the Borderguard, protect the smaller settlements that lie far from the population centers in the main kingdoms.

Sorcerer

Sorcerers might seek to join The Circle of Saffron, as many mages do. Others might see a place for themselves in the ranks of the Draconic armies. Practiced war scholars are known as Battlemages, but the sorcerers are often called Wildbloods or Spelltamers for the strange circumstances surrounding their magic. Sorcerers typically seek to understand the source of their magic, which drives them to adventure.

Warlock

While magic is more freely practiced in Exol, Warlocks still stir fear. Some can disguise their abilities. But those who can't may find themselves questioned by the dragon rulers, who would see an end to any power to rival their own. Warlocks might wish to understand their powers and their patron. A variety of schools and academies are available for the curious. But the Rixis School of Witchcraft is the most likely to seek out a warlock instead of the warlock seeking them.

Wizard

If dragons didn't rule Exol, wizards likely would. At some point, the dragon rulers realized it would be easier to make allies of the wizards than enemies. The Draconian Accord was formed as a result of this. Wizards who wish to practice independently can do so, but it is usually in their best interest to catalogue their progress via the guild. The Circle of Saffron operates seperately of the Draconian Accord, but with the understanding that their services will be used in times of war.

Warlord

Warlords usually are very learned individuals. As tacticians, some undergo years of training and schooling. Drounstis is one of the most prestigious of these schools (which is also known for training bards in the colleges of lore and swords). Warlords can be found at the front lines of battle. Like fighters, Warlords are universally useful.
Magic is freely practiced in Exol. But any power that might threaten the Draconic Kingdoms is sure to draw unwanted attention.
